About this event

With the increasing opportunities that are obtained as a result of technological developments, people have started to prefer to be alone in their quest for knowledge. For instant, when we are trying to reach information online, or listening to our teacher silently during lectures, we are totally alone with our own perceptions. On the other hand, we share our opinions and learn from each other when we prepare for an exam or work on a project.

Through the times, when the resources were limited and knowledge was far away from being one-click-distance to humans, life was quite different. Because of this reason the name and essence of TEDx Salon Events comes from past: In the salons, which first appeared in 16th century Italy and later on in 17th century France, the people who do not necessarily need to know one another used to meet and share their view on different subjects. Their primary goals were to learn and socialize. Moreover, according to many people, the salon environment, in which the people could freely discuss ideas; share and exchanges opinions on various topics, triggered the Enlightenment Period.

We, as TEDxSabanciUniversity team, invite you to be a part of our TEDxSabanciUniversitySalon event which offers a unique way of learning and sharing experience through a warm Salon environment. During our event, we will be benefitting from the technological advancements of our time and watch TED Talks videos. However, different from what we have accustomed to, we will also be talking about the TED Talks and the impressions they created on us without worries and concerns about time and truthiness of our thoughts.
