Z miesiąca na miesiąc TEDxKrakówCinema zyskuje coraz większą popularność.

W listopadowym wydarzeniu wzięło udział wiele nowych fanów TEDx'a. Tym razem gościliśmy Tomasza Wiecha – fotografa, który za swój reportaż „Korporacja krakowska” otrzymał w 2009 r. III nagrodę w kategorii Życie Codzienne w konkursie World Press Photo. Tematem przewodnim była fotografia wojenna, dlatego też jako pierwszą oglądnęliśmy mowę James'a Nachtwey'a laureata nagrody TED Prize 2007 roku. Prelekcja Nachtwey’a wywołała silne emocje dzięki fotografiom z różnych zakątków świata objętych stanem wojennym. Mowa ta przyczyniła się do dyskusji na tematy takie jak moralność, funkcję jaką powinni pełnić fotografowie wojenni, a także manipulacji potencjalnym odbiorcom zdjęć poprzez różne zabiegi fotograficzne. Ze względu na dużą ilość poruszanych tematów drugą mowę oglądnęliśmy jako formę podsumowania. Wael Ghonim przybliżył nam różne ukryte aspekty rewolucji demokratycznej w Egipcie. Możliwości wszczynania rewolucji jakie dają nam technologie obecnych czasów oraz wiele innych tematów przedyskutowaliśmy w mniej formalnym charakterze na afterparty w klubie Pauza.

TEDxKrakówCinema is becoming increasingly popular!

November's edition brought many new TEDx fans to Kino 18 at Pauza. Our guest curator was Tomasz Wiech – a Krakow-based photographer who was awarded 3rd place in the 2009 edition of the World Press Photo contest in the Daily Life category. This time we looked at war photography today – how it has evolved in the context of new technology, when almost everybody can take photos using the phone that’s always in their pockets and share these images (including those of war) with the whole world.

The first film we watched was James Nachtwey's TED Prize talk from 2007. His beautiful and terrible photographs from some of the world's most dangerous war zones generated strong emotions and a long discussions about the morality and purposes of war photographers, as well as the potential for manipulation of viewers of these photographs. The second talk we watched, Wael Ghonim from TEDxCairo talking about the role of images in the revolution there, provided a great summing up of where documenting conflict is heading. As is traditional, the discussion moved downstairs to the Pauza bar!
