In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Kjetil Bjorvatn

Kjetil Bjorvatn is a swedish professor with a PhD in economics. His main research topics involve economic geography, economic development and fiscal federalism and he has published several articles regarding these. His speech was about a project which evaluates an edutainment show (Ruka Juu; Jump up!) broadcasted on national television in Tanzania, aimed at inspiring young people to start their own business and teaching them how to do so. Using a randomized field experiment, where a treatment group is incentivized to watch the edutainment show and a control group is incentivized to watch a soap opera, we find strong evidence of edutainment inspiring the viewers to learn more about entrepreneurship and motivating them to start their own business. Morten Traavik

Morten Traavik will show examples of his own projects in the border area between arts and politics to show how artistic strategies and expressions are characterized by ambiguity and multiple layers of possible interpretations, and how often they can take you further than a more traditional approach. Morten Traavik is a Norwegian director and artist based in Oslo and Stockholm, working across a wide spectrum of artistic genres and international borders. His often controversial works include the beauty pageants for landmine survivors, Miss Landmine Angola (2008) and Miss Landmine Cambodia (2009). In 2010, he was the first (and so far only) artist-in-residence with the Norwegian Armed Forces. Morten is also foreknown for a series of pioneering collaborations with North Korean artists and cultural authorities. His recent retrospective exhibition POWER GAMES was the world's first to be exhibited simultaneously in North Korea and the USA.

Silje Reme

Silje Endresen Reme's talk was about the common phenomenon of back pain; why some people develop chronic pain and disability while others don’t, and what psychology has to do with it. Silje is a PhD. from Uni Health, Uni Research, Bergen & Harvard School of Public Health, Boston.

Lasse Birk Olesen

Lasse Birk Olesen believes that technological innovation is more important to how society develops than political agitation. He has been volunteering with the seasteading movement since 2009 and now makes a living dealing in bitcoins, a new revolutionary internet currency, through his company Bitcoin Nordic. Lasse has an educational background in mechanical engineering from Technical University of Denmark and National University of Singapore.
