In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Alexis Bouvy

An independent consultant working on conflict related issues in the Eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. He is currently co-director and co-founder of Local Voices, a non profit organization aiming at sharing local insights on international issues in a lively and human way.

Carlos Vaquera

One of the most charming and charismatic magicians in the world. He has won many awards for his skills at close up and card magic and he combines beautiful presentation with faultless technique. Carlos Vaquera will put some magic in our communication. He will take us on an interactive journey beyond the realms of reality and life, and speak about some techniques of influence and non verbal cues that he uses in his shows and in his everyday life.

Chris Lunch

A modern day alchemist in the field of international development; combining a certain attitude and intention with the power of technology to shift awareness, galvanise communities and unleash hidden energy for positive change. He and his team at InsightShare call this participatory video. Here he will unveil for us the latent powers that lie within a familiar piece of technology, the ubiquitous video camera, and will demonstrate how participatory video taps into a hidden circuit which turns this into a powerful tool for individual and collective transformation.

Emilie Tack

A curious mind and natural-born traveler she cannot help constantly learning new languages. For her TEDxIHECS talk, she will explore, along with the Japanese pianist Naomi Takagi how music can communicate, convey and create strong sociocultural and political messages in everyday life, e.g. on climate change. The talk will intend to demonstrate, quoting the conductor Daniel Barenboim, how “music could be a model for society”.

Martin Ophoven

Writer of "Le theatre carbonique". A simple method which puts aside all moralising sermons and politicized discourses using theatre, role plays, comedy and improvisation as so many tools to disrupt, release, capture and use collective imagination, experiences and dreams to create a new sense of awareness on an unlimited range of subjects.

Matthieu Lietaert

Co-author & co-director of the film "The Brussels Business" and the interactive project "We R Democracy" that won the best cross-media pitching at SunnySide of the Doc in 2010 and that was selected at the 2011 Power to the Pixel in London. Always prepared to consider different ways and alternatives to approaching a problem, this one of a kind ideas-generator is also author/editor of the books "Webdocs - Survival Guide for Online Filmmakers" and "Le Cohabitat. Reconstruisons des villages en ville".

Nicolas Baygert

One of the "risings stars" of political analysis in Belgium. Sharp blog-trotter, author and columnist for various online media, he is very well connected and with experiences ranging from communication to advocacy, european energy issues to sustainability, and justice to immigration to name just a few. Furthermore he specialises in cyber-activism and political consumerism.

Simon Sticker

Fully fledged and inspiring visual storyteller who specialises in humanitarian photography, documentary filmmaking and transmedia production. He is founder of Flow Media and director of HUMANS, a collaborative visual exploration of the human condition. One of the driving forces of his work is to break down stereotypes, create an understanding and somehow try to make people question their own ideas and assumptions.

Melissa Rancourt

Apart from being a self-confessed geek and unconditional fan of The Big Bang Theory TV show ("Bazinga!"), Melissa Rancourt is a passionate woman wearing many hats. She is a business and social entrepreneur and an industrial engineer with 20 years experience of leading organisations through change and improvement initiatives and creating new international business ventures. Her experience ranges from engineering to entrepreneurship, manufacturing to health care, private industry to foundation, global company to SME, USA to Europe.

Martin Jugmans

A storyteller, his experience arises from a lifestyle of exploration and adventure. He inspires people to tell their story and has an inclusive body, mind and soul approach to facilitate a living communication. Martin's integral stye to the Art of Storytelling creates a colourful patchwork of events as he draws ancient wisdom and current research data to reach a desired purpose. Practical secrets are revealed during his Storytelling workshops and coaching programs.

Yumma Mudra

Yumma has been studying body and mind disciplines intensively all along her artistic career. She founded the Danza Duende International School dedicated to sharing and teaching ways to enhance human wisdom and compassion in society through the Art of dancing our lives and awakening our natural goodness. Her TEDxIHECS talk will revolve around "the bliss of dancing our lives" as she will take us on a poetical and very personal journey sharing her own experiences as a dancer and teacher while attempting to reveal our common natural skills, our human potential and our interdependency on all things.

Alban Herinckx & Sean Carter

Two members of the A World of Football team, which took on a mission to find out more about social initiatives surrounding this sport and to narrate and raise awareness on the worldwide impact of football on youth development and integration into society. More than just a universal sport. football has become a way of life for millions of children providing structures, strong values and above all guidance which isn't always easy to come across when living conditions don't allow it.

Mathieu de Wasseige

Passionate and fascinated about popular culture as a means of empowerment, he decided to go a step further and dlve into the field of US Network Televison Series hoping to sharpen his understanding of the role of contemporary media in popular culture and therefore in the shaping of society. From Desperate Housewives to Grey's Anatomy, Cold Case to CSI whether Miami, Manhattan or Las Vegas, 24 to The West Wing, his PhD thesis gives a critical analysis of ideological narratives and social representations conveyed in these worldwide successful television series.
