TEDx@DubaiCollege is an event that focuses on the idea of ‘home’. Living in Dubai, people find themselves confused on what home actually is and what it means to them. Many will be born from country A, live in country B, yet have roots in country C and thus they often struggle to define what constitutes as a home to them. Although certainly not a global issue, this event would be unique to Dubai, a city which is often looked upon as a ‘melting pot’ of nationalities.

This issue perhaps most relevant to those aged 17/18 – hence this is a youth event – as the majority will be looking at leaving home to go to university. Is the country where they will go home? Or is it the place they have lived all their lives? Or even the place they were born?

We hope to touch upon the idea of whether Dubai in itself could be a real home for people if permanent residency is not available; essentially, it’s the issue of whether a passport gives you a sense of home or whether its where your family lives, or even the place your parents call home.
