In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Kazuo Kawasaki

Division of Mechanical Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka Univ., Professor. Design Director. He has designed cutleries, glasses, wheel chairs, computer hardware, nuclear power systems, and artificial organs - among other things. His design works were awarded a lot of the prizes. In recent years, he has worked, as a researcher and an educator, to integrate science, technology and medicine comprehensively, under the theme of “Total Artificial Heart”, “Robotics” and “Medical devices”

Hiroshi Ishiguro

Department of System Innovation, Graduate School of Engineering Science, Osaka Univ., Professor. He concurrently serves as the general manager of special laboratory at ATR and the chief technology advisor of Vstone, a venture company developing robots. In order to search “what is human?”, he researches robot itself and connection between human and robot. His research activity is highly evaluated from all over the world. He received Osaka Cultural Award in 2011.

Satoshi Kawata

Professor of Applied Physics and Executive Director of Photonics Center at Osaka Univ. He has been also a Chief Scientist in RIKEN, the Chairman of Nanophoton Corporation, and currently the Vice-President of Japan Society of Applied Physics. The "8-micron bull" fabricated with his invented two-photon technology has been awarded in Guinness World Record Book 2004 Edition. Awarded Medal with Purple Ribbon from the Emperor of Japan, Japan IBM Science Award, Leo Esaki Prize and many others.

Yoshiki Sawa

Division of Medicine, Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka Univ., Professor. He is a specialist of cardiac operation and also a scientist who leads the world. As we can see his successive operation in 2007 which he created a cell sheet from the patient’s leg muscle to regenerate heart, he has raised revolutions in the world of regeneration medicine. On the other hand, he tackles to reform health insurance to lead the medical field.

Fuminobu Ishikura

Division of Health Science, Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka Univ., Associate Professor. Cardiovascular specialist. He deals with high-blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease as “Male Menopause”, and cares patients to make their lives better. As one of his activity, he established “General Physician–Psychiatrist Network (G–P Net)” which has the purpose of reducing patients with depression and suicide.

Ichiroh Kanaya

Division of Mechanical Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka Univ., Associate Professor. He is a computer scientist, a media artist, and a tomb raider. He studies computational geometry and its application to design science and engineering, creation of a new art form, and survey of the world heritages in Egypt. He is an author of “Introduction to Quaternion” , “Realtime Sheader”He was a curator in chief and a show producer for TEDxKyoto 2012.

Ivy Grace U. Pait

Department of Biotechnology, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka Univ., Master Student. With a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of the Philippines Los Baños, she worked as a research associate for 2 years. Her interests include microbial secondary metabolite production and biofuels research. She insists that research activity teaches us hard work and perseverance amidst failures which can be applied to other endeavors like getting into business.

Güneş Üstüner

Studies in Language and Culture, Graduate School of Language and Culture, Osaka Univ., Student. She got a B.A. in Japanese Language and Literature at Turkish Republic Ankara Univ. While there, she studied Japanese language and Japanese history at Ochanomizu Women Univ. Having returned to Turkey, she worked as a Japanese translator, Japanese interpreter and Japanese teacher. In 2012, she came to Osaka Univ. as a government-sponsored foreign student. Her current research is focused on Japanese humor through Cognitive Linguistics and she is getting close to Japanese culture with Rakugo and Aikido.
