TEDxGurneyDrive, the very first TEDx event in Penang, is now in its second year. TEDxGurneyDrive’s 2012 event focused on the ideas of action. Titled, “Be All You Can Be,” the event hoped to encourage Malaysia thinkers to be stepping out of their comfort zone and start act, meanwhile, learn to overcome the failures.

Khu Li Fang

Khu Li Fang was an ordinary high school student. On 1999, she became a quadriplegic after a horrific accident and paralysed from the neck injured. She required a wheelchair for the rest of her life. Unlike most of her peers, she is a proud holder of a first-class honours degree in Social Sciences from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). She is currently further her studies to the postgraduate level and hoped to be able teach at USM once she obtained a Masters in sociology.

Cindy Gallop

Cindy Gallop has turned her illustrious advertising career into a lifelong pursuit of changing the world, her way one daring project after another. Cindy Gallop's TEDTalk "Make Love Not Porn" was one of the "most talked about presentations" at the 2009 TED conference according to the TED blog, in an attempt to squash the myths of hardcore pornography and to begin a dialog around how real people have sex. TED Speaker, founder of the IfWeRanTheWorld and MakeLoveNotPorn projects.

Dr. Prema Devaraj

Prema Evelyn Devaraj is the programme director at the Women’s Centre for Change in Penang. A chocolate-loving advocate for non-violence who is also a parent and a partner, she has been working on issues related to women and children for the past 10 years.

Dr. Oo Loo Chan

Dr. Oo Loo Chan is a medical director for Charis Hospice which is a non-prifit organization offering free palliative home care services for patient with cancer, irrespective of race and religion. She is working for her project more than 10 years.

Leonard Chua

Leonard Chua is a lead guitarist for the band called “An Honest Mistake” which won the Voize Independent Music Award 2010 for the Best College Act. He has performed on various stages, including the Baybeats Music Festival and Rock The World. He is involved in entrepreneurship and youth activism.

Joe Sidek

Joe is the festival director of the George Town Festival at Penang Malaysia which is featuring a wide spectrum of shows, such as opera, music, dance, theatre, film, food, fashion, photography and talks. Joe is also angling Penang for UNESCO listing as a Creative City For Food, and making Penang a repository and a lab of lost traditional South-East Asian art forms.

Andreas Vogiatzakis

A world citizen with rich life experiences spanning 3 continents and 6 countries, Andreas is passionate on sharing his learnings with university students, the future leaders of our world, coaching them to higher grounds. He has served in several industry boards, award juries and with numerous speeches, awards & seminars under his belt, he is an acclaimed sought-after speaker. Born and raised in rural Greece in Crete, he is a High Honors advertising graduate from the University of Florida, a Certified Professional Coach and the CEO of the award winning OMD & PHD agencies in Malaysia.
