About this event

TEDxWasedaU is the very first TEDx event organized by students in Waseda University and School of International Liberal Studies. It is the third student organized TEDx event in Japan. This year’s theme is “Make a Difference” and we hope to inspire the next generation to make a difference in their lives and society by ideas and experiences of special presenters from diverse backgrounds. Through the collaboration of 15minutes live presentations and TEDtalk videos, we assure you one unforgettable experience!

  • Masako Yonekawa
    Masako Yonekawa is a specialist of international cooperation and peacebuilding issues in Congo and Rwanda. She worked as a UNHCR Head of Field Office in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo. She currently holds a position at Utsunomiya University as an associate professor of international cooperation.
  • Ken Soetanto
    Ken Soetanto, Scientist/Researcher/Inventor/ Educator and award-winner of Nikkei Business Column “Make a Really ‘Motivated’ Human”. The author of “Why Do Failures Succeed?” (2006), and “Touching Education”, sub-tittle: Classroom Explosion by Soetanto Method” (2010)
  • Julian Worrall
    Julian Worrall is an Australian architect, scholar, and critic based in Tokyo. He holds the position of Associate Professor of Architecture and Urban Studies at Waseda University’s Institute for Advanced Study, from where he runs the research-based practice LLLABO, whose stated aim is to “distill the logic and the magic of the Asian metropolis.” After taking a doctorate in urban history at the University of Tokyo in 2005, he worked as an architect with Klein Dytham in Tokyo and Rem Koolhaas’s OMA in Rotterdam before taking up his present position. A contributing editor for London’s Icon magazine, his critical writings have been widely published and translated. His most recent book is 21st Century Tokyo: A Guide to Contemporary Architecture.
  • Rina Bovrisse
    Rina Bovrisse is the CEO of CHATEAU BON BON, a new concept international school. She is a member of international NGOs to improve social issues specialized in gender equality and human rights. She has also performed as a liaison to international parliaments to re-write the laws in respect of diversity, based on her personal experience supported by CEDAW of The United Nations and worldwide media.
  • Christopher Pokarier
    Christopher Pokarier is professor of business and governance in the School of International Liberal Studies at Waseda University & also serves as Councillor to Waseda’s international affairs office.
