TEDxCorpusChristi has a mission to find the voices of great ideas of our city and give them a platform to ignite the community and expand their passion.

An inaugural event is always exciting, and the same time it can overwhelm your nerves with energy. Organizers of the first ever TEDxCorpusChristi wondered if the event would be the success they all imagined. It is a question that only time can answer, and on Friday June 1, 2012 TEDxCorpusChriti opened its doors to a sold-out conference with 100 attendees and over 350 simulcast viewers via ustream. Guests and volunteers filled the event space at the Del Mar College Center for Economic Development building for the “TEDxCorpusChristi: Share Your Voice.” conference. Yes, the first event was the huge success the TEDxCorpusChristi team had been dreaming of!

The “Share Your Voice” conference featured speakers from very diverse backgrounds with a wide variety of experiences to share. The conference featured 12 speakers, with 10 of them coming from the local area ranging from Rockport to Taft and Corpus Christi, shedding light on amazing ideas about how to change our city from the inside out as well as delivering heart-pounding performances. It was great to have such encouraging support from the entire city. We were pleased to host our City of Corpus Christi Mayor who complimented the organizers, volunteers and participants for conveying their forward-looking ideas.

The over 100 guest participants at TEDxCorpusChristi were branded ‘TEDsters’ and some flew in from as far as California and Michigan to share in the local experience of idea sharing. Following the conference, TEDsters, volunteers, and organizers had a wonderful after-party hosted by The Havana Club, organized by the Young Business Professionals of the Coastal Bend. It was great to see the sharing of ideas take a more interpersonal form. Corpus Christi can certainly expect to see some groundbreaking changes in the near future.

Thank you to everyone who came to the event, tuned into the simulcast, volunteered, and especially those who shared the word. TEDxCorpusChristi was an amazing success, with TEDsters expressing that the event was unforgettably enlightening and inspiring. We all felt rewarded and motivated to witness some of the inspirational and revolutionary ideas being shared with those community members who can take action and make a tangible difference right here in Corpus Christi.

The key to TEDxCorpusChristi’s future success will be to continue promoting even more engagement between speakers, volunteers, and TEDsters; sharing our voices on stage is only one small piece of our commitment to empowering big ideas. So stay tuned! The journey for next year’s TEDxCorpusChristi has already begun.
