In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Amal Alhuwayshil

A risk taker and life scaler. Originally from Saudi Arabia, Amal Alhuwayshil moved to Canada over three years ago and began her undergraduate degree at UBCO in the faculty of Management. Her mission: Empowerment of women. She is currently an Executive Chair for Breaking Boundaries Okanagan Conference, a yoga instructor and a volunteer with HOPE Outreach Program who support homeless and/or sexually exploited women in the community. Amal can often be found practicing yoga, traveling, camping, reading a book or talking to strangers.

Andrew Mills

Andrew Mills is a part-time educator, full-time paramedic and all-the-time explorer of the roads less traveled. Recent adventures include developing an emergency medical app, helping redesign an Advanced Care Paramedic program and cycling the backroads from Vienna to Prague. His ongoing daydreams involve food, flights, mountains and meteorites.

Ashley Sagan

Originally from Calgary, Ashley is a former graduate of UBCO with a degree in Human Kinetics. During her spare time, Ashley can be found outdoors, whether kayaking, fishing, or coaching the Kelowna Kodiaks!

Brigette DePape

Brigette loves creative writing and her new play "The School of Happiness" will be premiering at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival. Brigette is a community organizer and during her spare time she can be found running or dancing.

Jillian Deri

Dr. Jillian Deri is a professor at UBCO in the Gender and Women's studies department. She is currently studying the effects of jealousy in polyamorous relationships, but she's looking at her findings with a broader scope to integrate them into the community. During her personal time, Jillian can be found writing and has already published her very own book!

Melody Kuban

Melody Kuban is a cross between mountain chasin', world lovin' and a beast-mode weight liftin' go-getter! (If you've ever seen someone walking on their hands down the street, it was probably her). She’s excited to conclude her final year in UBCO Human Kinetics by spreading her passion at a Tedx event.

Shira Sneg

A being inspired by the power of people and community. Currently in her final year studying psychology and anthropology UBC's Okanagan campus, Shira has already worked in four different departments on campus. For four years, she served as a faculty senator, starting initiatives for student success and mental health. Her superpowers include getting free food and making almost everything turn into a pun.

Stephen Dass

Stephen Dass is a 4th year Psychology student from Abbotsford B.C. He is involved in the Peer Mentorship program at UBCO and is a volunteer for the Kelowna Kodiaks street soccer program. Stephen spends his time outdoors, training in martial arts and bonding time with his Frenchie named Floyd.

Teagan Adams

Introducing Teagan Adams! At age 9, Teagan appeared on the hit TV show Dragons Den. He has helped fundraise and build two schools in third world countries and gets involved in just out everything out there. Teagan can be found at home, where he is being homeschooled to allow for all the extra-curricular activities he has planned for the year, dirt biking and snowboarding in the Winter.
