This is the first TEDx event at the International School of Kenya. Speakers took the topic of "While we were here" and gave it their own spin. A variety of speakers told their story and shared with our audience new insight and ideas worth sharing.

Adnan Shaf

Adnan is 16 years old with a passion for speaking. He has the desire to one day become the President of Kenya to better his country.

Andrew Mwololo

Andrew is a 17 year old music producer who wants to use music to empower the youth and raise awareness on issues affecting Africa.

USAID
A San Francisco native who worked as a SCUBA instructor in Los Angeles followed by an international career in the Executive Office at USAID Kenya and East Africa.

Chris Mureithi

Entrepreneur
He is an entrepreneur, motivational speaker, author, a contributor in the Daily Nation and the founder and CEO of Premiere Group Limited. He believes in the power of motivation.

Cindy Awino Adem

Entrepreneur
She calls herself a “lover of humans”. Her main goal in life is to alleviate human suffering. She is the founder of Village2Nation.

Daniel Corrigan

Education
Daniel Corrigan is a mathematics teacher originally from Buffalo, NY USA where he completed his bachelor's and master's degrees and began his teaching career. He is currently teaching seventh grade mathematics at ISK. He is also the founder and director of the non-profit organization Kawelle, which has built a solar powered IT school serving mainly youth in the IDP (internally displaced people) camp of Vumilia, Kenya.

Domtila Chesang

Women empowerment
She tackles one Kenya’s most pervasive topics, female genital mutilation and forced early marriages. Domtila is a Pokot woman who is a committed activist against the knife and is here to share her story.

Douglas Sidialo

Motivational Speaker
Avictim in the US Embassy bombing in 1998 caused him to lose sight. That, however never stopped him to live life at his full potential. He became a motivational speaker and has even published two books.

Elahe Anjarwalla

Elahe attended ISK before leaving for boarding school in England and graduating from Stanford. Today as an IT worker, she is passionate about the environment and enjoys being part of ambitious projects such as building 60 foot dhows made out of recycled plastic .

Jesse Forrester

Student
At only 18, Jesse is already the CEO and founder of his own company while being Director of Photography for MAPED. In addition he has been accepted and will attending the African Leadership Academy in South Africa.

Nicholas Kioko Kenneth Njoroge

Students
They are enrolled in Form 2 in Starehe Boys. Nick is 16, comes from Makueni and wants to be a lawyer. Kenneth is also 16, comes from Muranga and wants to be a pilot. They are both really good friends.

Oltesh Tobias

Business
Oltesh Tobias who went from being a cattle herder in Tanzania at the age of 6, to becoming a certified John Maxwell coach and speaker and a diplomat who has worked with businesses from all over the world.

Project Imagine

Students
Selah and Isabella are 9th graders at the International School of Kenya. Having lived in different countries each, they have been familiarized with issues that girls face across the world. As young women themselves they are determined to grant as many underprivileged girls a chance at attending secondary school. They are the founders of Project Imagine, and aspire to empower other women to join.

Sagar Lakhani

Sports
He has achieved great success within the local leagues in Kenya and ISSEA tournaments as a coach leading his team to success. His time and dedication put into allowing underprivileged kids an equal opportunity in life through the sport of football has inspired many within the school and around Nairobi.
