TEDxWestIslandSchool is an event run by students who are assisted by their teachers in order to deliver and give back to the local community. The main purpose of this event is for individuals to share their ideas in the form of talks and stimulate creativity and inspire others.

Anne Copeland

Is an active member of the Canadian Chamber’s Sustainable Development Committee and its Women’s Network
Anne Copeland is passionate about making this world better. She is originally from Toronto and has lived in Montreal and Halifax in Canada, France, Japan and, since 1996, in Hong Kong. Anne has 29 years of work experience and for the past nine years she has worked independently under her own sustainability risk and strategy consultancy firm. Previously, she worked for the International Finance Corporation and consultancy firms, and was involved with the Hong Kong Government’s Council for Sustainable Development, the Global Reporting Initiative and The Women’s Foundation as a Mentor. She remains active with the Canadian Chamber’s Sustainable Development Committee and its Women’s Network, and the Association of Certified and Chartered Accountant’s Global Sustainability Forum. She has led courses at The University of Hong Kong and earned a MA in Political Science and Environmental Studies from the University of Toronto and a BA (Honours) in Political Science from McGill University.

Ayesha Nihal

A university student passionate about studying business management.
Ayesha currently studies Business at The Hong Kong University of Sciences and Technology. She is one of the scholars of the TEDxWanChai Youth and Diversity program 2016. She aims to spread more awareness about her religion to tackle Islamophobia!

Laurence Pak

Laurence Pak is the Director of Operations at The Lion Rock Institute.
Laurence Pak was born and raised in Hong Kong and Vancouver and has also spent time in London. He has come to realise the importance of our freedom and sees how fast it can slip away, so he is working full time at the Lion Rock institute in Hong Kong to try and protect what is left of the freedom that people enjoy in Hong Kong.

Mario Artaza

A diplomat with a previous career in journalism
Mario Ignacio Artaza is a Chilean national who has lived and worked for 20 years in Asia. He is currently the Chief Representative of Banco Security 智定銀行, Chile’s only Bank in Hong Kong. He is the President of the Chile Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce and the Vice-president of the Americas Committee of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce. Raised in the United States and Peru, he studied Journalism and a Masters in International Relations. Worked as a journalist before becoming a career diplomat with postings in Singapore, Beijing and as Consul General of Chile in Hong Kong.

Mark Lomas

Experienced project manager and Director
Mark Lomas has lead numerous large, collaborative design and construction teams on various complex major infrastructure projects, such as the Hong Kong MTR.

Rohaan Sajnani

A businessman who is passionate about teaching others about mindfulness and the importance of gratitude.
“Having been a follower of the TED community, I foundvthis a great opportunity for my first TEDx talk. I am a West Island School alumni, so it gives me even greater pleasure to be sharing this evening. I am building on a goal and range of products & techniques I am currently by incorporating mindfulness and strengthening gratitude through routine work each day in order to excel and achieve greatness through these small but important steps. The first that I’m excited to share - a daily journal."
