TEDxStThomasAquinasHS will be a memorable event, bringing together a unique community of leaders driven by powerful ideas, dialogue, extraordinary talents, and a passion to share their creativity.

Charles Read

Student Presenter
Charles is the 2nd Lieutenant of the St. Thomas Marching Band and is on the Track and Field team. He is also a 1st Lieutenant in the Fort Lauderdale Composite Squadron. He is currently a student pilot in a Cessna 150 aircraft and a few flights away from earning his Private Pilot's license. His aspirations include CAP, and hopes to attend the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO.

Courtney Butterworth

Student Presenter
Courtney is a proud member of the Saint Thomas Aquinas Class of 2017. She writes for the Hollywood Gazette as a Teen Correspondent and contributes to Teenlink, a Sun Sentinel publication written for teens by teens. Courtney is also one of the youngest volunteers ever brought on board at Legal Aid of Broward County, a nonprofit law firm that aids those who are unable to afford legal counsel. She will be attending the University of Pennsylvania.

Student Presenter
Isabella is an exceptionally driven student at St Thomas Aquinas High School where she actively participates in programs such as Freshman Leadership and competes on both the High School Varsity Sailing and Debate Team at local and national levels. Already eagerly making plans to enter the medical field, Isabella also aspires to work within her community to create new health innovations for infants and children experiencing homelessness. She aspires to be involved and make a noticeable difference - thus, we are sure to hear her voice from many corners.

Janey Gauthier

Student Presenter
Janey is Oratory Captain of the Forensics and Debate team and is currently ranked third in the state in her event. Janey is the president of her 501c3 nonprofit organization called The Learning Room through which she and a group of high school students tutor English Language Learners in surrounding elementary schools. Janey enjoys volunteer work that involves working with special needs care, and hopes to pursue a career in pharmacology and genetics.

Jeffrey Julmis

Jeffrey Michael Julmis is a Haitian sprinter. He was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States. He competed in the 110 m hurdles event at the 2016 Summer Olympics, and performed well enough in his heat to qualify for the semifinals.

Jonathan L. Best

Guest Speaker
Jonathan Best is the Instruction and Outreach librarian at St. Thomas University Library. He coordinates the Library’s information literacy initiatives and the Library’s public events. He is also an adjunct instructor for the School of Theology and Ministry. Jonathan received his Ph.D. in Practical Theology from St. Thomas University. In addition to his work at the university, Jonathan frequently reviews books for several journals including Choice: Current Reviews for Academic Libraries and Reviews in Religion and Theology. Jonathan has presented papers to numerous theological conferences and meetings. He is also an ordained minister of the Original Free Will Baptist convention of North Carolina. His research interests include hermeneutics and postmodern philosophy.

Jose Nicholas Francisco

Musician
Jose Nicholas Francisco has been playing piano since he was six-years-old. Classically trained, he has worked for the past twelve years with a personal instructor who studied at the Juilliard School of Music. Although Jose has studied all periods of music-- from Baroque to Contemporary-- his favorite period both to study and perform is the Romantic period, as exemplified by his current, Chopin-dominant repertoire. Aside from his piano career, Jose is also a performing magician, a nationally ranked Extemporaneous Speaker, and a volunteer for Cleveland Clinic Florida. Jose is attending Stanford University in the fall.

Peter Pecic

Student Presenter
Peter Pecic is a Junior at Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Peter enjoys singing, writing short stories, and composing music in his spare time. He has always enjoyed public speaking and has competed in many debate tournaments during both his middle school and high school careers. He cherishes the arts and is an active member of the Saint Thomas Aquinas High School Choir. Peter hopes that everyone will be able to relate to his speech in one way or another as he believes his topic can apply to anyone in the audience.

Skylar Hooley

Skylar Hooley is a member of the Class of 2020 at St. Thomas Aquinas. She is part of the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society and was on crew for the 2017 spring play. Skylar plays the flute, piano, and ukulele. She loves art and music, and is excited to talk about her passion for creative means of expression.

Timothy Lincoln

Timothy Lincoln is a senior at St. Thomas Aquinas and is heavily involved in Campus Ministry. He loves reading and cooking and trains brazilian jiu jitsu in his free time. He hopes to study physics in college on a pre medical school path and tries to maintain a very positive outlook on life.
