Een wetenschapsjournalist kan zich laten leiden door zijn nieuwsgierigheid als een vlinder door de wind. Zo begon ik in 2001 verslag te doen van hersenonderzoek. Het thema ontwikkelde zich al snel tot een fascinatie die mij inmiddels al ruim vijftien jaar fulltime in zijn greep houdt. En ook een beetje tot een missie, want ik raakte ervan overtuigd dat het waardevol is als mensen begrijpen hoe het daarboven werkt. Waardevol wanneer docenten, politici en managers begrijpen hoe kinderen en volwassenen leren, ontwikkelen en presteren.
