TEDxKids@SMU is the first-ever TED-style conference for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students that centers on passion and ideas. Following the TED format TEDxKids@SMU is organized into sessions where 7-9 speakers share their ideas worth spreading. In between sessions, the middle school students and their high school peer mentors get the chance to mingle with speakers and each other, as well as participate in interactive exhibits and discussions. In exchange for free admission, TEDxKids@SMU student attendees are required to complete a service project.

Aaron Diggins

I am a father, a husband, a law student (SMU Dedman School of Law), a police detective (Dallas Police Department), and a military veteran (United States Marine Corps and United States Air Force). Whew! I am also an amateur rock climber and an avid Dallas Cowboy’s fan, go Cowboys! I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Texas Woman’s University (TWU). My wife and I created and are currently finding a scholarship fund (Leona Robinson-Diggins Scholarship Endowment Fund) at TWU to support students who desire to enter the legal profession.

Dave Gallo

David Gallo is the senior adviser for Strategic Initiative at the Center for Climate Life Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University. For more than 25 years, David Gallo has been at the forefront of ocean exploration, participating in and being witness to the development of new technologies and scientific discoveries that shape our view of planet earth.

Jonathan Cope

Jonathan is a composer from Dallas, Texas, who writes a variety of classical, inspirational pop and easy-listening tunes. He currently attends Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Cope loves to perform and has a profound interest in music, technology, photography, cinematography, as well as digital art and graphics design. Jonathan's music has been aired on Radio Stations such as WRR 101.1 FM (Dallas, TX), Mana'o Hana Hou Radio 91.7 FM (Maui, Hawaii), as well as TV Stations like Fox 4 News (DFW).
