Catherine Scherer

student

Catherine Scherer is a junior soccer player, percussionist, environmental activist, student ambassador, volunteer, yearbook contributor, and writing center peer tutor. In her spare time, she enjoys puzzles. Inspired by her aunt, Catherine challenges us to look deeper into the inequities people with disabilities face. She believes that awareness is a first step to effecting change.

Daisy Anderson

Daisy Anderson, a seventh grade student,is an athlete, artist, and activist. She is a dancer and cheerleader and plays lacrosse, field hockey, basketball. She is also in the Fairfax Football Hall of Fame! She was profoundly moved when she attended The Women’s March in January 2017 and wants to inspire others to promote women’s rights.

Danielle Effley

Danielle Effely is a junior and a member of the Honor Council, Huskies with HeART, Best Buddies, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Dani aspires to change the way that people think of growth by showing them that learning goes beyond the classroom and reminding us that we can learn from the youngest generation.

George Li

George Li is a seventh grade student who loves math and hockey. His favorite memory is tasting his first “legit” cupcake on his twelfth birthday! George challenges us to look for new ways to solve the air pollution problem in his native country China.

Lily Cohen

student

Lily Cohen, a junior, is a founding member of the Beneficial Bracelets Club and Huskies with Heart. She participates in yearbook, manages football, and serves as an ambassador. Outside of school she can be found skiing or planning for the Guatemala Service trip which she attends yearly. Lily also happens to be SEVERELY addicted to Sudoku. An avid traveler, she is inspired by the awe and beauty of the Grand Canyon and wants to raise awareness about its environmental and sociological importance.

Mariya Dempsey

Mariya Dempsey is a sixth grade student who is passionate about performing arts, is involved in the 5th/6th grade play, and has played piano since she was 3 years old. Her biggest joy comes from singing. Her talk was inspired by the plight of marine life that is tragically impacted by careless pollution. She is grateful to her parents for their guidance.

Megan Johnson

Megan Johnson is a freshman SCA Representative, varsity soccer player, and choir member. She loves to sing, play the piano, and teach herself new songs with a little help from Youtube. She is passionate about encouraging young women in leadership roles. She felt inspired to speak up and use her voice after attending the Women’s March on Washington.

Necati Unsal

Necati Unsal is a seventh grade student and participates in Certamen, track, swimming, cross country, and the Student Council. When he’s not under water, he’s a die-hard Trekkie Fan. Necati thanks his mom for all her support.

Neha Sharma

Neha Sharma is currently a junior at Flint Hill. She is the Founder and President of Flint Hill's Book Club "The Bookshelf,” as well as Photo Editor for "The View." Neha is also an active member of Yearbook club, Lit Mag, and the Gender Equality Club. Outside of School she can be found dancing ballet, playing the piano, or speaking one of her two languages, English or Hindi. Her talk will discuss what an "American" really is, and explore the question: “What defines an American"? Neha hopes to open the eyes of others, and inspire for them to give their own and share to the world their experiences and how they've learned from them/how other people could learn from them.

Nikhil Gentle

Nikhil Gentile is a seventh grade artist and an athlete who enjoys drawing, painting, basketball, swimming, tennis, and football. Nikhil draws on personal experience when he shares his idea to provide affordable cancer treatments for everyone. He is grateful to Mrs. Coakley, his mom, and his brother for their support in preparing for his first Tedx appearance.

Rohan Sindhwani

Rohan Sindhwani is a junior at Flint Hill. Rohan is an active member Varsity Tennis, The Flint Hill Finance Club, Flint Hill Young Republicans, and Model United Nations. A long term goals of Rohan’s is to help with micro-financing poverty on a global scale. He plans to do this by utilizing loans and other financial instruments, I would like to give financial access to small farmers, families, and ideas in third world countries allowing them to innovate and set up the necessary policies to grow. This is Rohan’s second year participating in Flint Hill’s Tedx event.

Sameer Bahethi

Sameer Bahethi is a sophomore athlete, explorer, and innovator. He enjoys tennis and golf, Model UN, Cyber Patriot Club, acting, and rock climbing. His mantra is that “change starts with you...and you can change the course of humanity.” His goal is to become an astronaut and go to Mars.

Sasha Wai

Sasha Wai is a junior journalist, artist, athlete, and performer. She writes for the View and Lit Mag, is preparing for the spring musical, and is a participant in Classics Club. She loves to ice skate and ballroom dance and is working towards perfecting the splits. Though fluent in Russian, she delivers her talk in English, reflecting on a recent injury and identifying ways she has adjusted and adapted.

Tyson Zhang

student

Tyson Zhang is a junior who runs cross country and plays tennis. He serves on the Inclusive Leadership Council, is a Model UN participant, contributes to Lit Mag, and is involved with Relay for Life and Clay Club. He also loves to whistle! Truly a global citizen, Tyson has lived in Nepal, Pakistan, and Thailand. Tyson thanks his brother and his dad for their support in preparing for this talk.
