Just how it's name implies, TEDxRenca takes place in Renca, a community well known for it’s poverty, violence, crime and lack of education. Having said that, we started thinking, “how can we change the defeatist mindset of our community, and how can we share the right ideas with them in order to make community members feel as qualified as any member of any community in the world."
So we started a methodical community integration plan that involved lots of diagnosis, stakeholder studying, local management, etc. and we found that the best way to make a mindset change is aiming to the stakeholders that are in charge of educating in Renca, such as schools, charitable groups, colleges, and other organizations in order to spark further engagement to make said change.
Change is slow, we know it, but we have to start at some point. For now, this is our first TEDx talk, and it’s divided into two blocks:
1) Breaking paradigms: How do we shake of our own prejudices as south-americans and empower ourselves. This is a “philosophical” block that aims to rinse the sentiment of defeat that sometimes overcome us, generating thoughts like “If Europeans can’t find a solution to something, how could we”.
2) Taking Action: This is a more demonstrative block, as it shows 3 talks regarding people that have done great things and have overcome great obstacles in order to achieve something.
