In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Arman Abrahimzadeh

Arman Abrahimzadeh established The Zahra Foundation to provide women who leave abusive relationships the opportunity to gain new skills and employment, and find safe homes for their families. He is an ambassador for White Ribbon and Our Watch, and a dedicated board and committee member for a number of organisations focused on ending disadvantage, including family violence.

Bill Allert

Through many changes in life, including time as an actor and entrepreneur, Bill Allert has been driven to help people to make their greatest contribution to the world. He believes there has never been a more important time for people to transform from fear and doubt to conviction and courage and realise their true potential.

Charlie Hargroves

Dr Charlie Hargroves has spent the last 15 years working with (and being inspired by) some of the world’s sustainability leaders. Charlie has co-authored five international books on sustainability that have sold over 100,000 copies in 6 languages. He has a PhD in low-carbon transitions, is an expert advisor to the United Nations, and a member of the prestigious Club of Rome (where some of the energy tipping point discussions began).

Fiona Kerr

Dr Fiona Kerr is on a mission to change the way we think about how we think. Fiona interprets the science behind why human connection matters, and how it changes our brains, hearts and the decisions we make. Fiona’s work in leadership combines more than 30 years of professional experience, many spent researching the seemingly disparate yet highly interwoven areas of cognitive neuroscience, systems engineering and anthropology. Fiona is a regular guest on radio, TV and is currently completing a book on building a human-centric future.

Gabrielle Kelly

Gabrielle Kelly is a deep-diving generalist: thinker, leader and change agent. As filmmaker, global digital media executive and strategist, she has relentlessly driven social change in the service of democracy, innovation and the positive evolution of society. Gabrielle is the Director of the Wellbeing and Resilience Centre at SAHMRI, the South Australian Health & Medical Research Institute.

Joel Bayliss

As a strong advocate and campaigner for Aboriginal justice matters, Joel Bayliss used the passionate response to Bill Leak’s cartoon portraying a negative stereotype of indigenous fathers to send a counter message of positivity. As a result, his online movement, #IndigenousDads, has been a powerful, harmonising force reminding Australians that in order to achieve reconciliation you have to ‘be the change’.

Manal Younus

Manal Younus is a writer, performance artist and creative producer. As a Muslim with Eritrean origins living in Australia, Manal has used her work to spark discussion amongst audiences and communities. Manal has performed around Australia including at the Sydney Opera House, featured on ABC television’s Q&A program and was a finalist for Young South Australian of the year in 2016. Manal released ‘Reap’, her self-published book of poetry in 2015.

Peter Walker

Segregated education is rising in popularity in Australia and some other parts of the world. Peter Walker’s view is that this isn’t working. He comes to the issue as former principal of a special school in New South Wales. Peter is now a lecturer in special education at Flinders University and is completing his doctorate on the subject. He is also the president of the South Australian chapter of the Australian Association of Special Education.

Robin Potanin

Robin Potanin has worked for 20 years in the male-dominated field of game development in Australia, the US and Europe. As an industry ambassador for the Academy of Interactive Entertainment, Robin is dedicated to the growth and maturity of the Australian games industry.

Rusty Russell

Rusty Russell is an Australian free software programmer and advocate, best known for his work alongside Linux luminaries like Linus Torvalds over the last few decades. He founded the influential linux.conf.au series of conferences in 1999 which continue to this day, and is responsible for dozens of projects which contribute to the productivity of programmers around the world.

Scott Boocock

Scott Boocock was born in Alice Springs, Northern Territory with a curious mind open to new adventures and opportunities. HIs many experiences across the world have contributed to Scott’s reputation as the ‘Aussie Innovator’; a passionate entrepreneur and inventor. Scott’s most recent invention, HEGS™, won the prestigious international Good Design Award, was featured on Channel 10’s Shark Tank Australia and won the Telstra South Australia Business of the Year award for 2015.

Sophie Thomson

Sophie is totally wild about gardening. She is a respected writer and icon of in the Australian gardening community, presenting for the ABC television’s Gardening Australia and writing for the Australian Gardening Magazine. A horticulturalist and naturopath, Sophie’s enthusiasm and passion for plants inspires people of all ages. As a tireless advocate for sustainable gardening practices, Sophie encourages people to enjoy growing organic food, cooking from the home garden and creating backyards where kids can play, swapping ‘screen time for green time’.

Taryn Brumfitt

Taryn Brumfitt is a best-selling author and internationally recognised body image activist and founder of the Body Image Movement. Taryn first rose to prominence when her unconventional before and after photo went viral in 2013, garnering 100 million views and sparking an international media frenzy. Her debut feature documentary ‘Embrace’ delves further into the issues of body image and is one of Australia’s most successful documentaries to date.

William Riedel

On the advice of his university professor and mentor, Sir Douglas Mawson, William Riedel’s working life of 50 years has focused almost exclusively on tracing the evolution of a group of single-celled organisms known as Radiolaria. This research has led to the validation of a different type of evolution proposed long ago by Lamarck, prior to Charles Darwin’s theory.
