TEDxNajd is the first TEDx event in Riyadh - Saudi Arabia. TEDxNajd presents "Great Ideas = Great Society", a full-day event where great people with great ideas come together to share big ideas that benefit our society. 15 speakers from different disciplines and different backgrounds will speak in TEDxNajd just to be part of the process of making our society better.

Hisham Abad

Dr. Hisham Abad is Professor of Physics at Alfaisal University. After finishing high school education in Albireh Palestine, traveled to the US to join his father in Chicago. He earned his Ph.D. degree in Physics from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1991. The topic of his PhD dissertation was on the determination of the optical properties of semiconductors by the use of spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE). After graduation, Dr. Abad won the prestigious National Research Council Post Doctoral Fellowship, which was served at the US Naval Research Laboratory in Washington DC. During this period, and in later employment as associate research professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Dr. Abad worked on the growth of advanced semiconducting and metallic thin films by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), and on the in-situ optical characterization of such films by SE. Dr. His current research interests include the growth of thin films for solar cell applications, the use of SE and other optical methods for the in-situ characterization of MBE growth processes. Dr. Abad is also interested in research on fresh water resources and the protection of the environment. Dr. Abad taught physics courses at the University of Illinois at Chicago and the University of the United Arab Emirates. Out of physics, he is currently working on a project to modify the Islamic calendar from purely lunar to a lunisolar calendar, and privately writes science fiction stories about Arabia and water resources.

Prof. Abdulmajeed Mohamad

Dr. A. A. Mohamad is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Alfaisal University. He graduated with a Ph.D. from the School of Mechanical Engineering, Purdue University, W. Lafayette, USA in 1991 and M.Sc. and B.Sc. from Baghdad University, Iraq. He is the author and co-author of more than 200 technical papers and couple of book chapters.
