In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Arnoud van Werkhoven

Transportation Innovator
Back in 2009, Arnoud van Werkhoven asked himself why so many cars and vans were driving around with ample cargo space. After buying an office chair on the internet the next question arose. Why wasn’t there an easy to use system to let his new purchase hitch a ride with entrepreneurs already on the road. Wouldn’t it be much more efficient if the vehicles of these entrepreneurs would be used to bring along stuff of third parties? Arnoud challenged himself and invented an online platform named Sjipit where demand and supply of transport of goods could find eachother.

Esther Stoel

Esther Stoel is a creative and innovative entrepreneur. Starting at a very young age she pursued her passion and wanted her own design agency. In 2013 she founded PerQua, currently a design agency for catering and food businesses. After experiencing several hardships in life she wants to use her experiences to inspire others and give strength to those in need. She has given several inspirational speeches to people who struggle with autism, anxiety, depression and burnout.

Itai Ivtzan

Professor Positive Psychology
Dr. Itai Ivtzan is passionate about the combination of psychology and spirituality. He is a positive psychologist, senior lecturer, and program leader of MAPP (Masters in Applied Positive Psychology) at the University of East London (UEL). He published several books, as well as many journal papers and book chapters. His main interests are positive psychology, mindfulness, yoga, and spirituality. Over the past 15 years, Dr. Ivtzan has run seminars, lectures, workshops and retreats in the UK and around the world, at various educational institutions and at private events. He is a regular keynote speaker at conferences. His talk addresses the question of 'What is Yoga?'.

Jan Meijroos

Game journalist
Video games are a big part of Jan's life. Both in his personal life and in his profession. Jan has worked more than 15 years as a freelance editor in the video game industry. In his role he has written articles for many media brands including Power Unlimited, the biggest game magazine in the Netherlands, for which he is the editor in chief since 2013.

Jan Reinder van Kammen

Magician
Jan is an illusionist, mentalist and creative thinker. He had his own TV series in the Netherlands, has wowed celebrities all over the world, from The Prince of Monaco to Chris Rock in Hollywood and the Queen of Holland with his mind-bending trickery. In 2015 he had his own TV show on FOX - Jan Reinder “the Magic of”.

Kasper Janssen

PHD Candidate
Kasper Janssen has always been passionate about aquatic life. In his work he aims to make aquaculture a better alternative to fisheries. His current PhD research at Wageningen University is part of a large project to advance breeding programs in European aquaculture to the next level. His focus is on balancing selection for different traits and economic optimization of breeding programs.

Lenneke Cornelissen

PHD Student
Lenneke Cornelissen is a talented, young researcher on cancer immunology at VU Medical Center in Amsterdam. Our immune cells can attack and kill cancer cells, but unfortunately cancer cells suppress immune responses and thus win the fight. Boosting the patient’s own immune system to fight the tumor is the major goal of cancer immunotherapy. It is very promising and it has cured patients which failed to respond to all standard treatments. Nevertheless, it is not successful in all patients and there is still a lot of work to be done in order to understand how we may improve cancer immunotherapy. Lenneke is dedicating her research to find that out.

Leon Winkler

International Event Manager
Leon Winkler started sculpting his career at age 16 as a waiter, transitioned to bartender, event manager and DJ. The money he made with planning events and DJ-ing were invested back into education. During college he started a production company and produced a TV show for The Box/ MTV. After some less than interesting jobs, he started as a local Product Manager at Ubisoft and transitioned to local PR and Events Manager. After a few years he received his dream job as International Events Associate Manager.

She learned a lot from the travels she made since she was 13 without her parents. Marleen works as a professional photographer and likes to tell stories about the people during her trips. Sometimes she founds her inspiration closer to home, like the flatbuilding were she lives. Taking pictures of her neighbors and doing research about what we call ‘home’ gave Marleen an idea for a worldtrip. A trip which you can participate on as well!

Matan Field

Founder / CEO
Matan Field is a blockchain researcher and entrepreneur. While researching String Theories in the academy, he has discovered the blockchain at the end of 2013 and founded LaZooz, a decentralized ride-sharing network. Later Matan has founded Backfeed to develop the protocol basis for decentralized autonomous organisations (DAO), a work in progress at the forefront of the blockchain revolution. His talk will cover the blockchain revolution and Decentralized Autonomous Organisations as a new form of life!

Niels de Bresser

Mathematician
Despite his age, he loves solving puzzles to the fullest extent. Whether it’s a small jigsaw puzzles with his little niece, or the world’s humanitarian biggest logistical challenge of food distribution, he happily take the challenge to solve them. As he cares a lot about fellow human beings, the more people he can help, the better…

Pavèl van Houten

Freelance Artist
He studied Graphic Design at the School of Arts in Utrecht, formerly Audio Visual at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and a Master of Fine Arts the Sandberg Institute. In 2012 he received from the AFK a development budget to investigate nature in the city and a grant from the Mondriaan Fund in 2016 to investigate "worthlessness" in society. Over the years there have been several articles published about his work in various well renown publications.

Pepijn Rijnbout

PHD student
Technology and design play an important role in his life. From my early years on he developed an interest in the overlap between technology and aesthetics in design of interactions. After studying industrial design at Design Academy Eindhoven, Pepijn developed technical skills on the HTS electronics engineering. In his PhD at Eindhoven University of Technology, He combine those skills in researching how to design ‘Intelligent Play Environments’ for Open-ended play.

Peter de Krom

Photographer
For five years Peter lived and worked in the small whimsical town of Hoek van Holland, the Netherlands. Here he created photographic stories about the Dutch culture. A common theme in his work is peculiar and primitive human behavior, which he likes to exploit with a biological and anthropological interest.

Sierd Nutma

Speaker
Sierd Nutma is a speaker, trainer and author in the field of mental resilience. He trains teams, leaders and top athletes and helps develop targeted performances. Because Sierd is so passionate and open-hearted he makes the people in the room think about their own personal store. As an adventurer he once bicycled 6000 kilometers through Siberia on his own. In 2014 he took place in one of the coldest and toughest marathons in the world, the North Pole marathon. And in 2015 he guided an expedition which made it possible that 6 different individuals with physical limitations were capable of climbing a mountain in Norway.
