Caldwell/Tester

An Electronic Improvisation Duo who formed in Northern California, Mark Tester and Landon Caldwell bring all the hiss and dreamy vocals that you would expect from the self-proclaimed “Tape Glam” artists. Over the past couple years they have dropped critically acclaimed records,”Life from Human Resources” and “Tapes 14”. They currently reside in Indianapolis,IN where they continue to push the boundaries of experimental improvisation.

Joyce Moore & John Moore

About Joyce: Joyce Moore has been involved in community service since childhood. Working with her scout troop delivering election results was one of her first experiences. Her interest in gardening was came from her father, who kept an immaculate well landscaped yard, was who an avid gardener and had backyard chickens and ducks at their childhood home. Summers were spent visiting her aunts who owned a 266 acre farm in Ohio. Joyce handed down her “home grown” legacy with the help of her husband, by teaching their sons the skills she learned in her youth, through science fair and home improvements projects which included hatching chickens, a raised garden bed, building a tree house and houses for pets, and a backyard orchard where they grew two kinds of grapes, a front yard cherry tree, strawberries, and of course various other garden vegetables. She completed the Purdue Master Gardner program Fall of 2011, along with her husband, and now they intend to share gained knowledge with the rest of their community and carry on the urban agricultural legacy of both their fathers (Albert A. Moore, and Robert L. Edwards). Joyce is a twice-elected Indiana Democratic State Delegate and served as a member of the board of several community service organizations including Community Action of Greater Indianapolis (CAGI), Meridian Kessler Neighborhood Association, (MKNA) and the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) where she served as youth advisor and is a life member. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Indiana University’s Kelly School of Business and a graduate certification in SAS Programming from Philadelphia University. She worked in corporate, medical, education and government entities in various management capacities before becoming an entrepreneur in 1993. Presently she owns a real estate company, J. L. Moore Realty, LLC. She is Realtor and Realist; a member of NAR (National Association of Realtors), IAR (Indiana Association of Realtors), MIBOR, (Metropolitian Indianapolis Board of Realtors), NAREB (National Assocation of Real Estate Brokers). She serves as President of the Board of Fall Creek Gardens. She loves to write, teach and, of course, garden. Joyce completed Purdue’s Master Food Preserver Program so that Urban Patch can conduct classes to urban gardeners so they can eat safely, from their gardens, locally grown food, all year long. About John: John Moore has 13 years experience in instructional systems design and web development and has designed and developed over 100 web-based learning products using multimedia and web technologies. John is also a visual artist and writer. He is experienced in web development, testing, implementation, documentation, e-learning, support and nominal experience in administration. Designed and developed training modules for professionals and implemented on learning management systems. Training materials included simulations, videos, web-based courses, instructor guides, job aids, assessments and surveys.

Cara Courage

Dr. Cara Courage is a collaborative placemaker, arts consultant, writer, researcher, curator and project manager, specialising in visual, live and social practice arts and the urban built environment. She passionately believe in the arts in society, the citizen’s position as expert in their own place and their right to have their say in what it is like and how it is run; and in the power of creativity in all forms and by all people in the urban realm. Cara’s book Arts in Place: the arts, the urban and social practice as part of the Routledge Research in Culture, Space and Identity Series, was published in February, and projects in development include: a placemaking textbook; The Future Library, a built environment public engagement arts project; and a modern architecture map of Brighton and Hove and its surrounds. She is a Fellow of the RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce), Royal Geographical Society, American Association of Geographers, Academician of Academy of Urbanism and member of the Placemaking Leadership Council. Cara’s career spans 14 years, working across art forms with a particular expertise in visual arts; architecture/built environment; cultural learning/arts CPD; HEI creative endeavour; and collaborative and networked practice. Award-winning, I work with individuals and organisations on a broad range of development activities as well as initiating my own arts-led built environment and placemaking interventions.

Carlos Gutiérrez

Carlos A. Gutiérrez is a film/video programmer, cultural promoter and arts consultant based in New York City. As a guest curator, he has presented several film/video series at different cultural institutions, including The Museum of Modern Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Film Society of Lincoln Center, and BAMcinématek. Along with Mahen Bonetti, he curated the 53rd edition of the Robert Flaherty Film Seminar. He is a contributing editor to BOMB Magazine and has served as a member of the jury and the selection committees for various film festivals including the Morelia Film Festival, Margaret Mead Film Festival, SANFIC – Santiago Film Festival, and DocsDF, among others. He has served as both expert nominator and panelist for the Rockefeller Fellowship Program for Mexican Film & Media Arts and for The Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative, as well as a screening panelist for the Oscars’ Academy Awards for film students. He holds MA in Cinema Studies from New York University and a BA in Communications from Universidad Iberoamericana (Mexico City).

David Harris

David Harris is an education reform leader and nonprofit founder driven by the conviction that every student, regardless of circumstances, deserves the opportunity to receive an excellent education. Harris believes that America’s entrenched education system can most effectively be improved by empowering education innovators and social entrepreneurs to develop bold solutions for transforming their communities’ K-12 systems and schools. He has devoted his career to putting that vision into action in his hometown of Indianapolis. For the last 15 years, Harris has worked to reshape Indianapolis’ K-12 system by growing the number of high-quality, autonomous schools, making Indianapolis a destination for top talent, and creating the landscape for education reform to thrive. Through this work, he built the Indianapolis Mayor’s Charter School Office, which became known as an award-winning blueprint for best-in-class charter-school authorization, and launched The Mind Trust, which has become a national model for city-based education change. Several cities, including Nashville, Cincinnati, Kansas City and more, have used The Mind Trust as a template for their own reform efforts. Harris also helped launch what is now Education Cities, a national organization that helps communities develop and execute comprehensive strategies for dramatically improving their public schools. Harris is frequently sought-after as a speaker and commentator on issues of national import in K-12 education, including school governance reform, charter schools, and education innovation and social entrepreneurship. His efforts have been cited in publications such as The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, U.S News & World Report, Education Week, The Chicago Tribune, The Indianapolis Star, and Indianapolis Business Journal, and in books, including The Power of Social Innovation by former Indianapolis Mayor Stephen Goldsmith, Education Unbound by education policy scholar Fredrick M. Hess, and more.

Derek Johnson

Derek Johnson is a composer, multi-instrumentalist and educator active in the world of contemporary concert music and beyond. His compositions been performed throughout the United States and Canada by leading soloists and ensembles including composer/pianist Timo Andres, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s MusicNOW and Nouvel Ensemble Moderne. Deeply engaged in the emerging position of the electric guitar in concert music, Since 2011, Derek has been engaged in a series of ongoing collaborations with Indianapolis based singer/songwriters Christian Taylor and Caleb McCoach, and is currently the drummer for Taylor’s Ampersand Blues Band and Caleb McCoach &Band. He has served as a faculty member in the music department of Columbia College Chicago, as an Associate Instructor of Composition at Indiana University’s Jacob School of Music, Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Composition at the Ball State University School of Music, and as chamber music faculty at the Bang On A Can Institute at MassMOCA and Moscow. Derek is also an avid transcriber and is currently working in collaboration with the innovative Swedish metal band Meshuggah on a series of note-for-note transcriptions of their complete discography.

Jay Hermacinski

Jay Hermacinski leads Corporate Communications for MISO (Midcontinent Independent System Operator), an essential link in the safe, cost-effective delivery of electric power across much of North America. Prior to joining MISO, Jay spent 20 years as a television news anchor and reporter. He is an Emmy Award-winning communications professional that continually demonstrates the ability to seamlessly coordinate all project facets including writing, editing, and planning of communications. Jay is also a talented coach known for equipping associates with the skills needed to exceed expectations on a consistent basis. He is recognized for a strong work ethic, integrity, and a high degree of personal initiative.

Jean Makesh

Jean Makesh is the founder, CEO of the Lantern group. An Occupational therapist by training with an under graduate and Post Diploma in Occupational therapy and a Masters degree in Business administration. He designed a state of the art award winning Alzheimer care facility in Madison, Saybrook and Chagrin Falls, Ohio. His fascination and passion to aging was the impetus to design and create a Personality centric rehabilitative care that is one of its kind. His recognition’s include Entrepreneur of the year and the Model practice award. Mr. Makesh was featured in various local and international media. On social media, Mr. Makesh’s design and care model had over 7 million views. Before establishing Lantern Group, he held various senior executive positions with a fortune 500 company. During his tenure with the 500 fortune company, his day to day responsibilities included ensuring best operational practices and compliance to highest quality of care. Jean, designed and developed a patent pending retro-virtual time capsule to nurture and facilitate memory and to promote functional independence. The care program utilizes the individual’s environment, learning and activities to activate repressed memories and stimulate newer learning. His personal mission to support, educate and equip the elderly, caregiver’s, family members and healthcare professionals with knowledge and resources about the Alzheimer’s disease, its prevention and treatment. His goal is to continue design, develop and construct state of the art facilities and therapeutic care models in the US and other parts of the world. Jean Makesh has authored textbooks called “Revelation to a unique world” for medical, professional’s and caregivers. His objective and mission is to combine his knowledge and experience to contribute and impact policies and practices in the areas of elderly care, good and efficient business practices and human kind as a whole.

Justin Wade

Justin Wade has served as the Executive Artistic Director of Young Actors Theatre in downtown Indianapolis since 2005. Justin has produced over 400 youth productions featuring K-12th graders. Justin designed and created all of YAT’s present programming. Justin considers himself an educator first and foremost and has spent over 10,000 hours in the classroom teaching and learning theatre education.

Kevin Desouza

Dr Kevin C. Desouza is an ASU Foundation professor in the School of Public Affairs at Arizona State University. He is also a Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution. He served as the inaugural Associate Dean for Research for the College of Public Service & Community Solutions from 2012-2016. Kevin holds a visiting professorship at the Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana. He has held visiting positions at the Center for International Studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science, the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, the Groupe Sup de Co Montpellier (GSCM) Business School in France, and the Accenture Institute for High Business Performance in Cambridge, Massachusetts (USA). Desouza has authored, co-authored, and/or edited nine books, the most recent being Intrapreneurship: Managing Ideas within Your Organization (University of Toronto Press, 2011). He has published more than 130 articles in journals across a range of disciplines including software engineering, information science, public administration, political science, technology management, and urban affairs. His work has also been featured by a number of publications such as Sloan Management Review, Harvard Business Review, Stanford Social Innovation Research, Businessweek, Wall Street Journal, Government Executive, and Computerworld, among others. Most recently he curated the Ideas to Retire series for the Brookings Institution that examines practices that are stifling technological innovation in the public sector. Desouza has received over $1.7 million in research funding from both private and government organizations. Specialties: Dr. Desouza has advised, briefed, and/or consulted for major international corporations and government organizations on strategic management issues ranging from management of information systems, to knowledge management, competitive intelligence, government intelligence operations, and crisis management. He is frequently an invited speaker on a number of cutting-edge business and technology topics for national and international, industry and academic audiences.

Kristin Van Busum

Kristin Van Busum believes that every kid on the planet, no matter where they’re born, has the fundamental right to education. Kristin is a native Hoosier, Fulbright Scholar, and founder of Project Alianza, an organization that builds and develops robust primary schools on coffee estate farms. The woman-led organization capitalizes on the potential of education to increase social mobility for kids of coffee laborers often called “the most vulnerable actors” in the coffee supply chain. Prior to founding Project Alianza, Kristin worked at RAND Corporation, a global policy think tank that provides objective research to policymakers. She holds a Master of Public Policy and Administration from New York University and Bachelor of Arts from Butler University.

Maryori Duarte-Sheffield

Maryori Duarte-Sheffield is Lead Education Specialist, Healthy Homes, Environmental Consumer Management and Senior Care at Marion County Public Health Department. Originally from Venezuela, she is a strong advocate for Central Indiana’s immigrant community and long-time volunteer for the Immigrant Welcome Center.

Naomi Tsu

As Deputy Legal Director at the Southern Poverty Law Center, Naomi Tsu oversees the SPLC’s legal and advocacy work on behalf of immigrants in the Deep South. She represents clients who have experienced wage theft, discrimination, human trafficking and other abuses. She was counsel for immigrant workers in David v. Signal, one of the largest labor trafficking cases brought in the United States, which resulted in a $14 million jury verdict and for which her team was awarded Public Justice’s 2015 Trial Lawyer of the Year award. Naomi also litigates challenges to state anti-immigrant laws and policies, and she advocates at the federal and regional levels on behalf of immigrants’ civil and workplace rights. Prior to joining the SPLC, she graduated from Boalt Hall and clerked for Judge Betty Binns Fletcher of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Natalie Schneider

As Anthem’s Vice President of Consumer Experience, Natalie leads a team of passionate design thinkers located around the country who are driving one of the largest B2C healthcare transformations in the nation’s history. Applying her service design orientation, Duke Fuqua MBA rigor and McKinsey & Company business acumen to a single goal: revolutionizing the way consumers experience healthcare. She is a frequent speaker on the topic of design and consumer experience in healthcare and has addressed diverse audiences of 6,000 to corporate boards. You has spoken at audiences at Forrester, Merck, Google/MedTech, Samsung, Duke, the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, the National Business Group on Health, American’s Health Insurance Plans and other health companies, physician groups and government councils. She has authored numerous articles on the topic of design thinking in healthcare. Her work has been cited in publications including the Wall Street Journal, and she is often featured on healthcare and consumer experience podcasts and media outlets including C-SPAN. Throughout her 20 year career, she has designed and implemented award-winning customer experiences that have dramatically improved both customer retention and the bottom line. Ultimately, she designs experiences and services through the eyes of consumers, patients and physicians while creating financial value. Natalie is also a frequent guest lecturer at Kelley School of Business and Rutgers University and serves on the Board of the Consumer Experience Professionals Association and Kelley School of Business. She holds several consumer experience awards including Consumer Experience Expert (2016), Top 10 Consumer Experience Innovator award (2016), and winner of the Consumer Experience Impact Award (2016), which recognizes individuals around the world who exemplify excellent customer experience.

Oreo Jones

Oreo Jones is that pair of Air Jordans too scuffed up to wear in public, but you do it anyway because they still feel right. Hailing from Indianapolis, Jones’ footprints are all over Midwest hip-hop. And in a sea of bleak imitation and style, Jones is a beautiful yacht confidently gliding to his destination, telling stories that demand ears. Jones cut his teeth on hardcore and punk rock in small town Indiana before he delved into hip-hop. But don’t doubt his allegiance to pure hip-hop. Jones spent most of 2015 organizing the biggest single-day hip-hop festival ever to occur in the state of Indiana, Chreece. Currently Oreo is the sound artist in residence over at Big Car’s Listen Hear sound art gallery.

Rodney Foxworth

Rodney D. Foxworth, Jr. is a social entrepreneur and philanthropy consultant. He is founder of Invested Impact, a nonprofit mission investing and social entrepreneurship organization. He has advised, developed and managed numerous social impact ventures, including BMe Baltimore, Emerging Leaders at Maryland Out of School Time Network, Baltimore Impact Hub, and Ours To Own, Baltimore. Rodney is a “40 Under 40” honoree of Baltimore Business Journal and Next City magazine. He is featured in the best-seller “Reach: 40 Black Men Speak on Living, Leading, and Succeeding.” Rodney is deeply involved in civic activities. He is Board Co-Chair of Thread and sits on the boards of the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance (GBCA) and Fusion Partnerships. Rodney is advisory board member of American Communities Trust, Betamore and the Social Innovation Lab (SIL) at The Johns Hopkins University. Rodney has been quoted by and featured in several media outlets, including The Baltimore Sun, Baltimore Citybizlist, MarylandReporter.com, WEAA, and WYPR. His writing has appeared in The Baltimore Sun, Baltimore City Paper, Urbanite, Metro US, Baltimore Brew, and The Orlando Weekly. Rodney earned his B.A in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC).

Santosh Mathan

Santosh Mathan is an Engineering Fellow at Honeywell Aerospace Principal Scientist in the Human Centered Systems group at Honeywell Laboratories. His research lies at the intersection of human computer interaction, machine learning, and biological signal processing. Santosh is the principal investigator and program manager on several efforts to use neurotechnology in practical settings. These efforts, carried out in collaboration with academic and industry researchers around the world, have led to the development of machine learning and signal processing algorithms that can estimate changes in cognitive function following brain trauma, identify fluctuations in attention, boost the activity of cortical networks underlying fluid intelligence, and serve as the basis for hands-free robotic control. Papers describing these projects have won multiple best paper awards at research conferences, and have been covered by the press in publications including the Wall Street Journal and Wired. He has been awarded over 10 US patents, with several more pending. Santosh has a doctoral degree in Human Computer Interaction from the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, where his research explored the use of computational cognitive models for diagnosing and remedying student difficulties during skill acquisition.

Wanda Legrand

Dr. Wanda H. Legrand became the Deputy Superintendent for Academics for the Indianapolis Public Schools in October of 2013. With over 24 years of experience as a professional educator/trainer, she has worked as a corporate trainer, high school teacher, assistant principal, principal, and regional superintendent. In her current role, Dr. Legrand is responsible for implementing aligned instructional programs district-wide as well as implementing new instructional programs and developing processes to change current ones. She continuously evaluates and assesses all district curricular and instructional programs to measure their effectiveness. She also leads IPS staff members in the planning, administration, and evaluation of professional development activities which support teaching and learning. Dr. Legrand has a Doctorate of Education and Masters of School Administration in Educational Leadership from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from North Carolina AT&T State University.

William Mougayar

William is a graduate of the University of Washington, the University of Western Ontario Ivey School of Business, and attended the University of British Columbia Graduate Commerce School.

Zaneta Thayer

Dr. Zaneta Thayer is an Assistant Professor at Dartmouth University. She is a biological anthropologist interested in understanding how (biological mechanisms) and why (evolutionary origins) environmental experiences shape patterns of human biology and health. One important application of this interest is understanding how social inequalities create health inequalities. As such, her research has focused on evaluating how factors such as poverty, trauma, and racial discrimination affect health. Zaneta’s overall research goal is to contribute findings of interest to both evolutionary anthropologists and public health professionals. She is strongly motivated to increase public understanding of evolution, developmental plasticity, and how the social construction of race can shape patterns of biological difference.
