Theme: Transformation

TEDxDrakeU is a student-led initiative, inspired by TED talks, with the firm belief that every individual has a thought-provoking and unique story to tell. Generally, TED talks are given by some of the world’s leading thinkers and doers. TEDx events have a similar vision but are much more locally focused. With this in mind, you will have the opportunity to listen to inspiring and maybe even unexpected ideas shared by professors, students, and community members. In having a theme of “Transformations,” the various lectures will explore transformations that occur physically, mentally, socially, or otherwise.

Doug Stilwell

A native of West Des Moines, Iowa currently serving as an assistant professor of educational leadership at Drake University.

Jill Viles

Jill is a native of Iowa and serves as a substitute teacher in addition to writing for her local newspaper. Throughout her life she has searched for more information regarding the mystery behind her rare genetic disorder. She loves taking care of her home and family, and loves a good book, or a great conversation any day of the week.

John Rovers

John Rovers teaches pharmacy practice and public health at Drake University. He earned a bachelor's degree in Canada, a master's degree in Australia and a doctorate in the United States. Unsurprisingly, his practice, teaching and research interests are in the area of global health.

Mitchell Klocke

Mitchell Klocke is currently a student student with a double major in Biology and Secondary Education at Drake University in Des Moines, IA. He was born and raised in Coon Rapids, IA his entire life before attending college where he wants to pursue a career in the field of science. Currently, he conducts research in Science Education and STEM at the University under the mentorship of Dr. Jerrid Kruse.

Renald Daemicke

Renald Daemicke is currently an undergraduate from Drake University studying to become a next generation science teacher. He believes that it is essential, now more than ever, that children have the capabilities to problem-solve and think autonomously. Renald is an advocate for collaboration and creativity in the field of science, and his research involves studying how various instructional methods aid to STEM education.
