In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Juan Manuel Jauregui Becker

Juan Jauregui Becker is an assistant professor in the laboratory of Design, Production and Management at the University of Twente. Born in Venezuela, he was one of the first international master students in Mechanical Engineering at the UT. Next to his professional career, Juan is involved in supporting innovators in their product development process in Mexico and Columbia.

Katja Staartjes

Katja Staartjes was the first Dutch woman to climb Mount Everest (8848 m) and has ascended several other mountain giants. She completed the Great Himalaya Trail, a journey of 2000 kilometres through the Himalayas. She shares her knowledge in the corporate world and has written 3 books about her adventures.

Prof. dr. Kitty Nijmeijer is professor Membrane Materials and Processes at Eindhoven University of Technology. She has extensive experience in the development and application of membranes (filters) for the purification of water to produce clean water and for the generation of sustainable energy from sea and river water. With her work she wants to inspire people to contribute to a social and sustainable world.

Koen Brouwer

In his professional career, he is always searching for balance and he finds this in all the things he does together at once. Koen is singer in the band JULIUS, winner of the Serious Talent 3FM award in 2014.

Maarten van Poppelen

Student Mechanical Engineering
Maarten van Poppelen is a student in mechanical engineering at the University of Twente. Last year, he was part of Solar Team Twente, a team that showed an incredible performance in the World Solar Challenge in Australia. Solar Team Twente took the second place by finishing only 3.5 minutes later than the winners. Furthermore, Solar Team Twente won the Innovation Award.
