In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Alex Cubellis

Alexander Cubellis is a 21-year-old student at the University of Toronto studying Engineering Science with a specialization in Mathematics, Statistics and Finance. He is also a residence don at St. Michael's College. He was born in Scarborough and raised in Markham, Ontario. Currently, he is very excited to be on a 16-month internship placement at Labatt Breweries as a Logistics Intern as part of the University of Toronto's Professional Experience Year Program.' He is an ordinary guy (and a bit of a self-proclaimed nerd) who enjoys soccer, playing poker with his buddies and getting beaten at chess.

Blake Fly

Blake works with kids, campuses and companies, giving them innovative methods to boost culture and build community. He is the author of The Campus Life Guide and the Co-Creator of an in-schoool program called “My Life Online: Teaching Kids To Be Kind Online.” In his spare time, Blake helps build the Hi5Run series, which is a social movement to bring unexpected joy to cities, and essentially get more people to look up and smile. He is allergic to cats and obsessed with his girlfriend, Emily.

Dev Basu

A little over 10 years ago, Dev Basu was trying to find his place at Emery Collegiate, a high school in a rough neighbourhood near Jane St and Weston Rd in Toronto. It also happened to be his first year as a young adult in Canada. Today, Dev is best known as a digital marketing expert who helps companies double how fast they grow through better marketing. Dev also shares frameworks for personal growth and performance, writing on topics such as deconstructing motivation, New Year’s resolutions, happiness, and entrepreneurial success in the face of adversity.

Donisha Prendergast

Donisha Prendergast is a Soul on a Journey. A filmmaker and come-unity activist who uses her many platforms and talents to empower new models of self-governance and Healing as she travels around the world. Co- founder of the youth and arts based advocacy organization Manifesto Jamaica and leader of the Occupy Pinnacle movement to protect and preserve the heritage of RasTafari; Donisha uses her voice to carry on the message and mission of her grandparents Reggae Legends Bob & Rita Marley. Peace, Justice and the idea of One Love for all.

Lara Parlatan

Lara is a motivated grade 11 student at Pickering High School. She aspires to one day become a medical doctor and a political activist. She has always loved to work with people and have their voices heard. She is a senior member in the Town’s Youth Engagement Advisory Committee and strives to create a positive impact both locally and globally. After volunteering in Turkey for refugee relief, she came back to Canada and started an organization called CHANGE, which stands for Canadians Helping Around National and Global Enterprises. Her organization aims to raise money to fund refugees living in Turkey with food and shelter supplies.

Mary Wells

Mary Wells is an engineering professor at the University of Waterloo in the department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering. She is Chair at the Ontario Network of Women in Engineering, Associate Dean Outreach, and is enthusiastic to share her knowledge.

Spider Jones

Spider Jones is a 3-time golden Glove Boxing Champion who sparred with Muhammad Ali. He is also an award winning radio broadcaster who has interviewed people such as Bill Clinton, Marc Wahlberg, Nelson Mandela, Russell Peters, LL cool J, Michael Jordan and Wayne Gretsky. Spider has also written the number-one best seller entitled Out of the Darkness, which is set to become a movie early next year.
