Language should not be a barrier in spreading great ideas. With that in mind, TEDxPickeringStreet is the first bilingual (English-Chinese) TEDx event in Singapore that seeks to connect people across cultural and linguistic boundaries.

思维的分享不该被语言所拘束。 为了能够链接不同语文和文化背景的人，我们成立了新加坡首个双语的TEDx 活动，从而让所有人的思想和故事都能够有个发声的平台。

ABOUT THE THEME | 关于主题

There seems to always be a certain 'way of life' that is trending at the moment. Be it the healthy lifestyle movement, or the 'quite your job and travel the world' trend, or more recently, the entrepreneurial way of life. There as many ways of life as there are people, and we hope that by providing a platform to showcase all these different ways of life, more people will be aware of the paths available to them. And in doing so, be inspired to find their own place in the world and forge a path that will lead them to a happiness that’s uniquely theirs.

All roads lead to Rome, even if 'Rome' is not the same for everyone.

这世界上有多少人，就有多少种生活之道。虽然社会总会提倡某些道路，但是并不是所有的道路都适合所有人。每个人都有属于他们自己的生活之道。我们希望透过分享许多不同的人生故事，经历与思维来启发各位找到属于自己的快乐和道路。

Anne-Laure Herrezuelo

Community and Space Manager

An agronomist engineer by training, she holds a double Master’s Degree in Agricultural Science,Sociology and Rural Economy . She started her journey through art installations in France, especially for music festivals. In Asia, Anne-Laure's curiosity led her to develop her expertise on the BoP (Base of the Pyramid), social business, and cross-sectorial collaboration and become the Community Manager of The Hub, where she has met Kirsty, She has started in the NGO emergency and development field. Anne-Laure has worked in Africa on foodsecurity projects and in South America helping farming communities with structure and added access tomarket opportunities. She has also provided organizational expertise to entities working with vulnerable groups such as malnourished children and underprivileged families.

Bob Lee

Photographer

Bob is a highly decorated photographer with many international awards under his belt. Before he started his own photography business, he was a photojournalist for Lianhe Zaobao. He then started his own photography business, The Fat Farmer (www.thefatfarmer.com), not only to pursue his own interests but more because he wanted to spend more time with his autistic son. His most recent work revolves around fulfilling the Last Wish for terminally ill patients patients in Assisi Hospice, who are left with very little time, in hopes of helping create happy memories for these patients as they walked their final journey in life.

Chew Lin Kay

Futures Midwife

As a facilitator, I see myself as a bridgebuilder. I am interested in helping others discover and maintain connections. In the sustainability space, I am interested in understanding social currents and how they manifest how we make decisions. I am keen on discovering how we can make more space for ourselves to innovate, because I believe that as individuals and communities, we have the ability to come up with excellent solutions to improve our surroundings.

Daryl Yang

LGBT+ Student Activist

Daryl is currently pursuing a double degree in Law and Liberal Arts at Yale-NUS College. As coordinator of The G Spot, the Yale-NUS gender and sexuality alliance, he has initiated various initiatives, such as Ally Week, Doing It Right (a sex-positivity and safer sex campaign) and Qamp, a two-day LGBTQ+ student activism training camp. Daryl also led the group in achieving the AWARE Student Initiative Award in 2015. Outside of Yale-NUS, Daryl, together with leaders from four other LGBT+ university groups, co-founded the Inter-University LGBT Network, which organises cross-campus programmes such as Qrientation, a welcome event for incoming LGBT+ and allied freshmen.

Edward Lim

Environmentalist & Life Coach

Of his many titles, Edward is an environmentalist, a life coach, and trainer cum speaker for Starfish Learning Journey, the only company appointed and trained by National Environment Agency (NEA) to provide the fully guided tour of Semakau Offshore Landfill. As a member of Starfish Learning Journey, Edward sets out to educate; create and raise awareness and consciousness of the environment to students and working adults through its various talks and workshops.

Eeva Chang

An award-winning radio DJ, a language educator and a mother, Eeva was born in the mountains of southern Taiwan to the aboriginal tribe of the Paiwan People. Eeva has since settled down in Singapore and has been making a difference in the fields of media and education ever since.

Ender Jiang

Futuristic Storyteller

Ender has always been exploring how to create unique storytelling experiences via cutting-edge technologies. During his career in the creative industry in the past 10 years, Ender has made numbers of short films about urban lifestyle, social challenges, and concepts of future cities. Since 2014, Ender has been working on Hiverlab, a local start-up founded by him which focuses on virtual reality storytelling experiences. As a pioneer VR content production team in Southeast Asia, Hiverlab has produced a series of VR stories, firmed up partnerships with Letv, Huawei and Samsung, and is now aiming at continuously upgrading their technologies to create better futuristic storytelling experiences.

Jabez Tan

Restauranter & HOPE Ambassador

Recipient of the President Challenge Award for Social Change and ambassador of HOPE, Jabez Tan is an ex-offender with total 13 years imprisonment and 12 strokes of cane due to drug related offenses. With strong determination to break away from his addiction and his old lifestyle, Jabez decided to pick up cooking skills in Changi prison during his last term. Jabez started off as a kitchen dishwasher. He soon became main chef due to his outstanding culinary skills. Later on, Jabez came up with a Bak Kut Teh recipe from scratch and started his F&B business with a good cause. In 2011 Jabez started a Bak Kut Teh eatery mainly employ ex-offenders with a social mission to give ex-offenders a meaningful career and a new start in life with a stable income and with a mission to raise up ex-offenders to help ex-offenders.

Jacqui Hocking

Jacqui Hocking is on a life journey to help companies #DiscoverPurpose. Co-founder of LateNite Films in Melbourne and Gone Adventurin’ in Singapore, she believes it is always possible for companies to integrate social & environmental solutions into a profitable part of business. She began her career as a documentary filmmaker, with the UN TOPtoTOP Global Climate Expedition sailing around the world, collecting global solutions for climate change. From supply chains in Indonesia to Maasai Warriors in Tanzania, Sherpas on Mount Everest, carbon offset projects in the Amazon Rainforest and Iguanas on the Galapagos Islands, she has captured stories all over the world. Passionate about innovative in storytelling, she helped co-found StoryCode in Singapore, hosts a monthly networking drinks for creatives, and is building the first ever Singapore Eco Film Festival to launch October 2016. Her answer to most questions is: ALWAYS POSSIBLE.

Kirsty Furniss

Founder

She is the co-founder of KA'a, the collaboration of Kirsty Furniss and Mathieu Augereau, contemporary urban artists. The Duo create raw large paintings, designs and murals combining textured free hand aerosol with detailed hand cut stencils. More recently KA'a build large scale Art Installations intertwining Street Art, App technology, Space Design and Video documentation for companies and arts events. The installations enable audiences to really engage and interact with stories of change, social impact andpersonal growth. Over the years Kirsty has design and organises independent arts and cultural events including curating group art exhibitions, multidisciplinary creative industry events as well as festivals in Australia, Singapore and France. More recently and through their connection at the Hub, Kirsty and Anne-Laure have been starting their own artistic projects to crystalise and support people’s transformation.

Lorenzo Petrillo

Chief Crane Operator

Lorenzo is a designer and community driver. He began his career in Italy, designing for esterni (www.esterni.org), an association that develops cultural projects for public spaces (among them, the Public Design Festival). Lorenzo then moved to Asia in 2007, first to Shanghai and then 3 years later to Singapore, where he am now a permanent resident. Hisy experience over the last 8 years has been predominantly in the brand experience space, as a design lead for MNCs such as Bata and Samsung. After an eye-opening sabbatical year, his travels around the globe inspired him to start his own business, LOPELAB, a design consultancy agency, marrying urban structures and social ideas for a more enjoyable and sustainable city.

1999 24-hr Inline Speed Skating World Record Holder & Olympian, now turned coach, Sandy Snakenberg has recently earned his title as a "Bubbleogist". As a bubble artist, Sandy performs regularly in various locations around Singapore. Sherena Loh is the Founder and Executive Director of Muscular Dystrophy Association (Singapore). In coping with her own physical disabilities, she learned to be resilient and positive in life. Her desire to empower people with disabilities and their families has inspired her to actively serve in the community for the past 27 years.

VICTORIA HO – After earning degrees in Business Administration and Psychology from Canada, she returned to Singapore and worked as a company director before stepping down to be a full-time mom to only daughter, Summer. She is happily married to a teacher and editor.As a stay-at- home mom, Victoria encourages her daughter, nephew and niece to explore and learn not only from but also beyond textbooks. She hopes to inspire children to achieve their dreams by asking different questions, finding their own answers and overcoming challenges. SUMMER FONG – is a 12-year- old student at Singapore Chinese Girls School. She is an aspiring writer who hopes to publish one day. Zack Huang

Zack is an industrial engineer turned designer with a strong passion for delivering technology-enabled visual experience. As a member of the Design Innovation Team at the SUTD-MIT International Design Centre (IDC), Zack with his team created many generative art tokens that symbolize the new university, including the Harmonic Levitator, the SUTD Cube and the Impossible D. With his prior experience as system consultant and project manager, Zack loves to cope with complex systems and knowledge across disciplines.
