Theme: The Essence of Exploration

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Anne Johnson

Entrepreneur

Anne started in business right after graduation working her way from fork lift driver to owner and coo of a multinational distribution corporation. While running her brick and mortar company, Anne branched out and started an entrepreneurial web venture, Turning a profit in record time. Feeling unsatisfied with her contribution to her home community Anne sold her ownership positions and began teaching both graduate and undergraduate business at Wilmington university. She also turned to volunteerism sitting on the board of first state community loan fund and Delaware's first women's business center. Today in addition to her non profit efforts Anne is an active fundraiser. She was nominated as woman of the year by the leukemia and lymphoma society of Delaware and raised over $80,000 in 10 weeks. Anne spends her downtime with her husband of 19 years Ric, and their two children Catherine and Matthew.

Brian Selander

Brian Selander has more than 20 years of experience building and communicating. Brian served as the Chief Strategy Officer for Governor Jack Markell, National Director for a practice for a multibillion dollar company, and Managing Director of a management consulting firm he helped scale and sell. His experience includes time as a staffer to another Governor, communications director for US Senator Tom Carper, presidential campaign aide, print reporter and talk radio host. Brian graduated with a B.A. from Rutgers University, earned his Masters in Applied Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania where he taught for several years, and completed the Senior Executive Fellows Program at Harvard University. He is on the advisory boards of DoSomething.org, the Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation, the growth equity fund Catalyst Investors and the Harvard Alumni Entrepreneurs.
