This event occurred on

7:30pm - 10:00pm CET
(UTC +1hr)
The Hague, Zuid-Holland

You are cordially invited to the next TEDxTheHague salon! Our November edition — themed Shake Your Beliefs — is curated by TEDxTheHague enthusiasts Tomaso and Jolija Bulligan. Tomaso writes:

"We are passionate about these talks because they shake beliefs that are very ingrained in how people see the world and themselves today. We believe that recognizing and overcoming these self-imposed limitations is key in progressing both as individuals and as a species.

Hope you like these talks!"

We'll explore this theme by watching and discussing the following videos:

Hans and Ola Rosling: How not to be ignorant about the world
How much do you know about the world? Hans Rosling, with his famous charts of global population, health and income data (and an extra-extra-long pointer), demonstrates that you have a high statistical chance of being quite wrong about what you think you know. Play along with his audience quiz — then, from Hans’ son Ola, learn 4 ways to quickly get less ignorant.

ShaoLan: Learn to read Chinese ... with ease!
For foreigners, learning to speak Chinese is a hard task. But learning to read the beautiful, often complex characters of the Chinese written language may be less difficult. ShaoLan walks through a simple lesson in recognizing the ideas behind the characters and their meaning — building from a few simple forms to more complex concepts. Call it Chineasy.

Graham Shaw: Why people believe they can’t draw — and how to prove they can
Why is it that so many people think they can’t draw? Where did we learn to believe that? Graham Shaw will shatter this illusion – quite literally - in a very practical way. He’ll demonstrate how the simple act of drawing has the power to make a positive difference in the world.

Brian Little: Confessions of a passionate introvert
The funny and entertaining Brian Little leads us to consider the introverts and extraverts in our lives, why we sometimes act out of character, and what we can do about it. It is clear why Harvard's graduating classes voted him a Favorite Professor three times in a row.

RSVP if you want to attend
We hope this theme will resonate with you, awaken your curiosity and make you decide to attend TEDxTheHague. To stimulate conversation, we admit up to 20 guests. If you want to be put on our final guest list, please RSVP. First-come, first-served!
