In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Nascent Planetary Scientist
Elise Harrington is a B.Sc Honours student at Simon Fraser University in the Department of Earth Sciences. In 2014 she had the exciting opportunity to take part in the Lunar and Planetary Summer Internship Program in Houston, Texas. Together with her advisor, Dr. Allan Treiman, they worked on a remote sensing project to study the radar properties of Venus' highlands. Since then, they have presented their findings at the Geological Society of America AGM, and at the 2015 Lunar and Planetary Sciences Conference, and are working on publication. Continuing to combine her love of rocks, and love of space, she has also studied enstatite chondrites - a rare form of meteorite - and is currently starting her honours thesis with Dr. Glyn Williams-Jones on lava flow modeling of Venusian canali. She is a proud supporter of RASC Vancouver, and the SFU's new Trottier Observatory.Richard Hoshino
