Theme: Big Vision

We are pleased to introduce “Big vision” as our theme of the year, which indicates placing wishes of the entire human race into each individual’s visions. Each and every wish could be achieved, whether it’s entrepreneurship, innovation, vision, or love. These achievements not only belong to the individuals, but to the whole city and the entire era as well. Honored as the “Silicon Valley of Asia” by the Economist, Hsinchu is well-known of its key role in the global electronics supply chain, which proved to be the leader of Taiwan’s economic growth.
Nevertheless, Hsinchu is currently facing various difficulties under the rapid change of the global economic environment, and is in urgent need of industry restructuring. We sincerely hope that all our visions could be implemented given the ongoing industry transformation, and therefore proposed two supporting subjects for our theme. Firstly, we hope that the wisdom and spirit of entrepreneurship could be passed on to the younger generations through cross-generation talks. Secondly, we expect that technology itself could be diversified so as to enrich our lives, fulfill our dreams, and most importantly, transform Hsinchu into an international city which possesses both hard and soft power. May the visions of every individual could constitute a multivariate picture of this futuristic city.

Chen-Fu Chien

Professor, NTHU Department of Industrial Engineering

Dr. Chien is a distinguished professor at National Tsing Hua University, with his research focusing on analytical methods (Decision Analysis, OR, and Statistics) and solutions (implemented in terms of IT, e.g. DSS, Data Mining) for high-tech companies, semiconductor manufacturing, power delivery, and telecommunication. He is also a managing personnel of the NTHU-TSMC Center for Manufacturing Excellence and NSC Semiconductor Technologies Empowerment Partners Consortium. Dr. Chien has published over 120 papers for acadmic journals, taken out eight patents on semiconductor manufacturing, and authored several books including “Decision Analysis and Management”, “Data Mining and Big Data Analysis”, and “Industrial Engineering and Management Cases”. From radical climate to global warming, we’re on a verge of a world wide climate change. People are in desperate need of an eco-friendly architectural technique that can not only stand through the versatile environment, but can actually cooperate with it. This is how JW Ecotechnology Methods are born. The JW Ecotechnology Methods stresses the importance of one of their ingenious designs, the Air-Circulated Pervious Pavement. It is virtually a breathing pavement in the Earth, with its Aqueduct Assembly that is used for drainage and evapotranspiraton of air,water and moist. It has amazing effects on preventing or reducing flood, ground sinking, regulating air temperature, carbon capture and pollution reduction, to name a few.

“Be your best self and create your own Blue Ocean!” is what Dr. Chu has always encouraged his students to achieve. Not to succumb to mediocrity, but to pursue excellence. Dr. Chu himself definitely embodies this spirit, as he was elected by Cheers Magazine as the “10 EMBA Professors of the Year” for 5 consecutive times, and is an honored member of the Chinese Society for Management Technology. To exemplify his motto even further, he is the founder of both NCTU EMBA Program and NCTU Venture and Innovation Program. His dedication to nurturing future leaders will undoubtedly inspire generations for time to come.

Sunfar 3C, one of the biggest and most well known consumer electronics distributor in southern Taiwan, has established itself not only as a successful franchise, but also as a celebrated philanthropic enterprise. Mr. Wu persisted in his endeavors to increase social welfare for the underprivileged, even to the dismay of the shareholders. We need not look far to fully comprehend his joy of contributing to the society and helping out the children, as he has shared his bliss through the markets and Facebook pages. Mr. Wu advocated that only when the chance for education is equally distributed, will the nourishing of Taiwanese talents truly prosper. In the annual conference he will share his insights on the impact of Industry 4.0 brings to the world, and the opportunities and predicaments that follow.

Yong-Fen Hsieh

Dr. Yong-fen Hsieh graduated from the Department of Materials Science in 1981. In 1983, she graduated with her masters from the Institute of Materials Science before further obtaining her Ph.D. from the same institute in 1987. During her time at NTHU, she function analytical research in semiconductor metal contact systems. Now Dr. Hsieh is MA-tek CEO.
