In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Appurv Gupta’s ‘Funny Side Up – Life of Engineers’ is one of India’s Top 20 Comics to watch out for as per the list determined by CNN IBN in 2014. He joins the likes of many engineers who shunned the lures of the corporate world to join the stage – as a Stand-up comedian. His ideas and observations from the simplicities of life have the audiences rolling in laughter. His videos on mobile phones and laptops are a clear indication that his jokes are very cleverly designed to please the people with his razor sharp humor. His free thinking personality compliments his ability of being an excellent satirist. Gupta’s jabs at the common man’s habits make you sit up and take notice of his intellect. He has written many notable pieces and his blog is a satirical take on Indians, engineers, and in general, on life. He tickles the funny bone of students and big corporate honchos alike.

Gitanjali Babbar

Social Worker
A driving force of revolution who has brought woman into the mainstream. She has gained critical acclaim for her work to pull the sex workers out of their misery, by not only educating them but also ensuring that they pursue their interests and earn a living out of it. She launched Kat- Katha, an initiative to encourage community participation so as to help the sex workers lead a better life and have a shot at finding opportunities for alternate livelihoods. Kat Katha has successfully enabled many GB Road sex workers to pursue activities like tailoring, weaving, art and craft, and thus help them gain confidence.

Sarthak Sethi

Student
Sarthak Sethi is a budding genius who, at 15 has scaled most peaks which any hardware lover sets out to achieve in his entire lifetime. Currently, he is working as a Research Collaboration Student at MIT Media Labs. Sethi uses his prowess as a hacker with professionalism and has created solutions which solve real world problems. He has been credited for the excellent usage of his skills to create KumbhCash – a platform to make cashless payments via a QR code, which will be implemented soon. He is a coder with a heartwarming intent to solve problems like fuel shortage and his research and innovations in the field of renewable energy are commendable. One of his research papers includes the mind blowing concept of storing and recycling waste heat which can be then converted into electrical energy. One of his other projects focuses on converting speech into electrical energy.

Siddhartha Sharma

Founder - Smriti Yoga
A proponent of the Vedic and Yoga philosophy and founder of Smriti Yoga. From the age of 13, he has immersed himself in learning the teachings of Upanishads and the Vedas. He has been actively participating in meditation camps, and has delivered countless talks highlighting that each one of us is directly responsible for the events occurring in our lives. He has also authored ‘Swadhyaya – Introspection Protocol’. The utmost benefit one derives out of practicing Yoga is the balance one obtains in his/her life, and this, as per Siddhartha, is the ultimate goal we must seek to achieve.

Soum Paul

Film Industry
A Mumbai-based filmmaker and writer, whose two non-fiction books have been published. A graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, he went on to find Farinto.com and Topopolis Films. His publication ‘The Topper Prepares’ talks of the countless stories of millions in India who put in every ounce of their strengths to be able to secure a seat in the coveted IITs. His productions include films like ‘(What is) The White Matter?’ and ‘Auto Meri Jaan : A Film on Three Wheels’. He has also been helping startups scale up by lending his expertise.

Vikram Sridhar

Theater practitioner
Vikram Sridhar is a Performance storyteller and theatre practitioner based in Bangalore. He has been working with a number of arts based organizations and across India for about a decade now. He has spoken, performed and facilitated discussion on the role of Oral Storytelling in the contemporary era. He is the co-founder Tahatto, a Bangalore based award winning theatre group. He consults organizations in the social sector space in leveraging ancient Indian techniques of Arts in the space of Social change like in Education, Environment etc. He combines the three in his Storytelling to make a difference. By education he is an Engineering and Management graduate from India’s premier institutes. In his Management days he began various social groups and forums to address the application of Management in areas like Public service, Non Profit sector , Social enterprises etc. which got wide acclaim from the media and the institution ( IIT) .
