TEDxUNYP is an event that brings together bright minds to give talks that are idea-focused, and on a wide range of subjects, to foster learning, inspiration and wonder – and provoke conversations that matter. The theme for the November event will be “One World” – exploring ideas relating to the changing landscape of the world in times of globalization and international integration.

Allarik Mappa Curtis

Student of Communication & Mass Media
Allarik Mappa Curtis is a 4th year student in the University of New York in Prague. Born in Indonesia to Indonesian/Australian parents, Allarik lived in China and the Czech Republic providing him with insight into different cultures and experiences that the world has to offer. He enjoys traveling and photography which go hand in hand. From his traditional Indonesian roots, he has adopted the love of cooking as it is heavily embedded in his culture. He has lived in Czech Republic for 5 years which has been an inspirational stay because being in the heart of Europe gives him access to many countries, seeing and meeting many people that come to visit Prague. Czech Republic is also known for its own beauty from architecture to landscapes to amazing natural formations. Allarik's future goals are to help those in need and leave a mark on this world by making a difference one step at a time which is why he is also heavily involved with an NGO called Youth Included.

Elizabeth Nyamayaro (Official TED Talk Video)

Political scientist
Political scientist Elizabeth Nyamayaro is the senior advisor to the Under Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women. She has worked at the forefront of Africa’s development agenda for more than a decade in both the public and private sector, and has held positions with UNAIDS, the World Health Organization and the World Bank. Nyamayaro is founder of Africa IQ, an innovative social impact organisation with a mission to promote Africa’s sustainable economic growth and development. She is also the driving force behind the @HeForShe campaign, which mobilized more than 100,000 men in every country around the globe. The campaign created 1.2 billion Twitter impressions in just one week, rallying men as advocates and change agents in ending the persisting inequalities faced by women and girls globally.

Ivan Sebalo

Student of Psychology
Ivan comes from a small (according to Russian scale) town in Siberia, called Krasnoyarsk. His last 2.5 years have been spent studying psychology at the University of New York in Prague, and he is truly fascinated by this discipline. Particularly, his interests lie in comprehending the intricacies of the human mind (both "normal" and "abnormal"). Since understanding the mind requires an understanding of its foundations and products, Ivan also follows biological and neurological research is and engaged with philosophy (from metaphysics to politics) and art. During his studies he has managed to conduct several studies, one of which was a pilot experiment concerning the ability of university students to control egocentric impulses.

Jeff Medeiros

University Professor and lecturer on the topics of Information Systems, e-Commerce and Entrepreneurship
Jeff holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Finance from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MBA in Information Systems from the University of New York in Prague. He is the Founder/CEO of a tech-based business in Silicon Valley, founded during the .com boom, bust, and recovery. Jeff is currently the co-Founder of Keastone, Inc., a Software as a Service (SaaS) cloud-based offering which revolutionizes how people manage their information to get stuff done.

Juan Nicolas Pinzon Guevara

Entrepreneur
Juan is a dreamer and doer. He is a Colombian entrepreneur who was chosen from more than eighteen million people worldwide to work with Sir Richard Branson (founder of Virgin Group). His dream is to innovate and do business with new technologies, create jobs in his home country of Colombia and in the world. His devotion to his ideas has led him to trade his desk at HSBC Bank for his dreams. He started his ventures in oil and dreams of new processes to change the world. Then came the opportunity of his life - working alongside Sir Richard Branson. At that time, Juan's dream turned into something tangible and he decided that every enterprise he'd launch should influence society to make it better. Branson told him something that has become his mantra when undertaking new tasks: "the most important thing is simplicity." It has become clear for Juan that the idea of simplicity is the essence of entrepreneurship.

Pepper de Callier

Respected leadership authority
One of the most respected authorities on leadership in Europe, columnist and author, Pepper de Callier has devoted his career to understanding, counseling, and coaching leaders globally. Pepper has advised executives in Asia, North America, and Europe. Pepper is also deeply involved in the development of future leaders. He is a Founder and Member of the Supervisory Board of Aspen Institute Prague, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Zdenek and Michaela Bakala Foundation, and a member of the Shareholder’s Advisory Board of Economia, the Czech Republic’s premier business news publisher. He has served as a Guest Lecturer and member of the Advisory Board of the College of Business at California State University San Marcos and Guest Lecturer at The Prague School of Economics and The London Business School. Pepper de Callier has recently been awarded the title of “Best Corporate Leadership Coach—Europe” by UK-based organization, Corporate vision.

Taiye Selasi (Official TED Talk Video)

Writer and photographer
A writer and photographer of Nigerian and Ghanaian descent, born in London and raised in Boston, now living in Rome and Berlin, who has studied Latin and music, Taiye Selasi is herself a study in the modern meaning of identity. In 2005 she published the much-discussed (and controversial) essay "Bye-Bye, Babar (Or: What Is an Afropolitan?)," offering an alternative vision of African identity for a transnational generation. Prompted by writer Toni Morrison, the following year she published the short story "The Sex Lives of African Girls" in the literary magazine Granta. Her first novel Ghana Must Go, published in 2013, is a tale of family drama and reconciliation, following six characters and spanning generations, continents, genders and classes.

William Cohn

University professor, lecturing on law, ethics and critical thinking
William A. Cohn, J.D. a member of the California Bar, is a professor of jurisprudence at New York University, and a lecturer on law, ethics and critical thinking at the University of New York in Prague. An attorney and constitutional law scholar, Mr. Cohn has practiced and taught law since 1993, working with clients, judges, international organizations, bar associations and scholars, lecturing and publishing extensively on matters of law and policy. Mr. Cohn’s scholarship focuses on law and ethics, and on innovative methods to promote critical thinking skills, media literacy, and the rule of law.
