In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Joe Arciniega

Joe Arciniega is a former C-level technology executive who returned his family to Laredo after 27 years in Los Angeles and Seattle. He was Chief Operating Officer for an Atari subsidiary, President of an Internet "dot com" through its growth and IPO, and a Partner-level executive and General Manager for Microsoft Corporation. He is a writer, has local business and nonprofit interests, and is an executive coach on management practices, presentations, and public speaking, who has presented at events throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.

Mariana Acosta Contreras

Mariana Acosta is a professor at Universidad Gestalt de Diseno in Xalapa, Mexico. She holds an MFA in Jewelry and Metalsmithing from Rhode Island School of Design (Class of 2009). For the past four years she has been teaching graphic and industrial designers "Precious Waste, the art of rubbish transformation" a class-project that challenges our personal interpretation and definition of waste through a process of experimentation and transformation of everyday objects that are discarded as they become useless in the ordinary world.
