In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Carmen Lee

Linguist and Professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong
As a sociolinguist, Carmen Lee has always been fascinated by how human language works in today’s society. For over 10 years, she has been interested in what happens to language when it moves to the online world. She is currently Associate Professor in English at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where she teaches and research on various subjects in applied linguistics and sociolinguistics. Her research focuses on the relationship between language, literacy, and identity on the internet. Carmen has presented her research in Asia, North America and Europe. She is co-author of the book Language Online (Routledge, 2013) and is currently working on another book for Routledge, Multilingualism Online. At TEDxHKUST, Carmen will discuss public concerns about ‘falling standards in English’ in relation to language on the internet.

Jeannie Cho Lee

Master of Wine
Jeannie Cho Lee is the first Asian Master of Wine, one of only 322 in the world. She has spent over 20 years in wine publishing and is currently the Publisher and CEO of Le Pan magazine, a bimonthly wine lifestyle publication with editions in English and Simplified Chinese that is distributed in 32 cities around the world. She is the award-winning author of Asian Palate and Mastering Wine. This fall marks the second season where you find Jeannie hosting TVB Pearl’s 13-episode wine program called In Vino Veritas. She is also a Professor of Wine for the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and a consultant to Singapore Airlines. In 2014 she designed and launched the Jeannie Cho Lee Wine Glass Collection distributed by Spiegelau worldwide. She is honored as the 25th Most Powerful Person in Wine according to Decanter’s 2013 Power List.

Juliette Gimenez

Juliette Gimenez is a highly passionate entrepreneur and the co founder and current CEO of Goxip, the mobile first app that allows user to search, discover and shop for fashion by image recognition and celebrity style feed. Before founding Goxip, Juliette was one of the founding team and Chief Revenue Officer of CDiscount TH, which is then listed in NASDAQ in 2014. Prior to that, Juliette was VP at ubuyibuy which was then acquired by Groupon.

Kenneth So

Ex journalist
Kenneth is a veteran in the publishing industry for over 35 years. He has worked as a reporter/correspondent/editor in Hong Kong, Tokyo, Beijing, Singapore, and San Jose. He spearheaded the first export trade journal in China titled “International Business” in 1987. He also pioneered the publishing of the life style magazine “ELLE” in Shanghai in 1990. Kenneth is also a Philosophical Practitioner certified by APPA (American Philosophical Practitioners Association). Currently, Kenneth serves as Honorary Adviser in the following Association/Society: 1. Hong Kong Electronics & Technologies Association 2. Hong Kong Critical Components Manufacturers Association 3. Hong Kong (SME) Economic and Trade Promotional Association 4. Hong Kong Practical Philosophy Society At TEDxHKUST 2015, Kenneth will talk about the lessons in life which has brought him to where he is today.

Oliver Chan

Professor of the City University of Hong Kong
Heng Choon (Oliver) CHAN, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Criminology at City University of Hong Kong. He received his Ph.D. in Criminology from the University of South Florida, Tampa, FL, USA, and was selected as a “2012 Outstanding Criminology Ambassador Award” recipient by his alma mater. In 2014, Oliver has been awarded the honorary title “Early Career Award” by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC) of University Grant Committee (UGC) for his outstanding and successful application for the competitive Early Career Scheme (ECS) grant. When he was in the U.S., Oliver interned and later was employed by the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPDC) Homicide Case Review Units as one of its first two Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Violent Criminals Apprehension Program (ViCAP) analysts. His research focuses on sexual homicide, offender profiling, sex offending, homicide, stalking behavior, and criminological issues related to the Asian popul

Quinn Lai

Quinn Lai is a serial entrepreneur in Hong Kong and the United States. His startups have achieved impacts in different ways from enabling impoverished students to learn more effectively to prolonging (or even saving) the lives of terminally ill patients. He was also a Hewlett Packard (WebOS) product manager and a McKinsey consultant. His current venture, EONIQ (http://www.eoniq.co) aims to revolutionize how watches are designed and bring custom time pieces to everyone. Utilizing his training and experience in design thinking and need finding, he has been involved in the development of multiple MNC’s innovative products/processes, including but not limited to card based multitasking UI for mobile devices, next generation automotive infotainment system and a car design process

Sherjan Husainie

Sherjan Husainie is an Investment Banker at Morgan Stanley focused on the Asian Financial Sponsors sector and previously worked at Google Capital, Google’s late-stage investing arm, where he spent his time sourcing and investing in technology companies in U.S., China, and India. Prior to Google Capital, Sherjan worked at Morgan Stanley’s Technology Investment Banking group and before that at Houlihan Lokey in Mergers & Acquisitions. Sherjan is also the Founder of Leaders Global Network, an initiative dedicated to helping thousands of students around the world achieve their career dreams. He holds a degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Toronto and a Masters in Financial Engineering from UCLA Anderson.
