In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Golpe Urbano y Diego Miño

Golpe Urbano is an Ecuadorian percussion group that makes music with recycled and recovered instruments and elements. Golpe Urbano has been for almost 2 years. Diego Miño, music manager and founder of the percussion group Tomback, is the director of Golpe Urbano, composed of young musicians and percussionists. Golpe Urbano was created from a percussion class at Despensa Miño, Diego´s academy for music, where kids and youth study rhythms from all over the world, and are now bringing these influences into Ecuadorian music.

Dennise Zumbana

Dennis is a very Young researcher and inventor. With only 14 years of age, and since he was 12 years old, Dennis has taken part in 2 robotic competitions and technological events. His world, as he himself points old, evolves around robotics and it is this passion for discovery that led to the birth of “Chatty Box” his robot. “Chatty Box” is a small robot designed with the intention to develop new learning tools and techniques to encourage kids to learning. Dennis’ Project hopes to improve retention and creativity through the use of technology. At the Campus Party event held in Quito, Dennis was recognized and praised for his Project among adult developers and inventors.

Georgie Herrera

When he was 10 years old, his father, a music aficionado, bought him a piano to test his musical aptitude. In 3 weeks, Georgie could fully play “Für Elise” by Beethoven, only by ear. With this background Georgie was admitted to Universidad San Francisco de Quito to study music, putting a lot of effort and hard work to combine both his high school education and his music education. Georgie began with classical music and further ahead pursued jazz. In 2012 he represented Ecuador in Berlin, playing alongside the famous classical pianist Lang Lang and with his jazz hero Herbie Hancock. He is in love with computers and wants in the future to pursue professionally both computer science and music. This summer Geogie will represent Ecuador at the National Youth Science Camp in West Virginia. With his talent for music, Georgie composes and writes lyrics, one of his songs resulting selected as semifinalist in the International Songwriting Competition in Nashville Tennessee in 2014.

Isabel Haro

Isabel and Miguel are two young high school students who have discovered their passion for the art of cinematography and its powerful possibility of giving a voice to people and groups, which cannot be heard, through their project “Hands of a Woman”. Both born in Quito, 17 years ago, Isabel and Miguel want to pursue their interest and passion while giving back to their community and contributing to a better world. Their project “Hands of a Woman” is a short documentary film telling the story of Matilde and her struggle to overcome gender perceptions in her small indigenous community. Isabel and Miguel’s project was selected for the Qatar film festival, winning first prize in its category. Isabel and Miguel continue to discover and embrace their artistic talents as part of their life.

Johana Alarcon

Photographic designer and visual artist born in Quito in 1992, Johanna specializes in documental photography and has published several Works, which include the Photo documental book “Art as a Tool for Social Transformation”, the community newspaper “Art in my Neighborhood”, the photographic essay “Mothers of Urban Culture” and the documentary “The New Generation” which obtained an honorary mention award for Photojournalism for peace “Juan Antonio Serrano” in 2013. Johanna is founding member of the cultural association Nina Shunku and cultural manager and developer since 2010. She has worked on several projects on community organization, education and community communication with kids, teens and adults on rural and urban areas through art and culture.

Juan Manuel Arregui

Since a very young age Juan Manuel has been in touch with cinematography through the work of Victor Arregui, his father, a renowned director, thus the dynamics and ambiance of cinema production result very familiar to him. About two years ago, Juan Manuel performed his first role as actor in a leading role, “Feriado”, the opera prima of Director Diego Araujo. Juan Manuel´s portrayal in Feriado gained him recognition and very positive critiques in various international film festivals. His interest for cinema started since he was very young and became his passion at 16, when he was part of the production team of “The Facilitator” and ¨Break a Leg”. His experiences in diverse roles and views within cinematography production have sparked a genuine love for direction and sound. Juan Manuel has started his career and studies in Cinema, and wants to further explore his capabilities in acting, to further strengthen his professional experience.

Miguel Andrade

Valentina Poveda

Valentina Poveda is the youngest novelist of Ecuador. She was born in Quito 14 years ago. Since she was 6 years old, she attended a creative writing workshop, taught by the writer Leonor Bravo. At the age of eleven, Valentina published her first children’s novel “Soyfiero, un tiburón de otro mundo” (Iamugly, a shark from another world). Since then Valentina has dozens of written stories, essays and comics. She is currently working on her fourth book. She is currently attending 10th grade and shares her time between schoolwork, social work with the scouts and provides support to children in need of assistance with schoolwork. Her passion is books, Reading, her family, ice cream, the scouts and pushing kids around her to be different and to follow their dreams. Her biggest dream is to become Ecuador’s first Literature Nobel Prize.
