Korean Minjok Leadership Academy (민족사관고등학교), Korea's leading specialized highschool, is proud to host its first-ever TEDx on August 29th, 2015, under the theme: Pioneer. Two guest speakers will be honoring TEDxYouth@KMLA. Sakiroo Choi, a world renowned illustrator, will give a speech under the title “Between Stability and Instability”, with an insight into his pioneering approach into illustration. Mark Barthelemy, a polyglot with experience in Autodesk, International Space Development Conference, and VICE news, will be giving a lecture about the Korean 수능 college entrance exam system, based on his experience as an education entrepreneur. We encourage anyone who is interested to come to the event, held at the Auditorium at Dasan Hall in KMLA, from 1pm to 5pm.

Jiwon Han

student
Jiwon Han is a student mainly interested in physics, although not limited to it. His recent field of interest is computational fluid dynamics, mostly lead by his enthusiasm for coffee spilling. As an amateur musician, he enjoys music of all genres; a traditional korean drummer with a rock guitarist's spirit. He currently attends KMLA, a high school in South Korea.

Juneyoub Han

student
Juneyoub Han is a student interested in the study of economics. Interested specifically in the thoughts of great economists who have come before, he wishes to embrace their thoughts and become an economist with “a cool mind and a warm heart” in the near future. He currently attends KMLA, a high school in South Korea.

Jungchan Yoon

student
Jungchan Yoon is a current student of Korean Minjok Leadership Academy. He is interested in international relations and political science. As a captain of the Model UN club in KMLA, he has led himself and the club to success in several international conferences. Recently he found deep interest in climate change and methods to establish an international framework against it.

Mark Barthelemy

education + space + journalist
Education entrepreneur Mark Barthelemy is the co-founder of 킨다 (www.kynda.org), offering next-generation learning services and advisory services. He is a Member of the Autodesk Education Council and an Advisory Board Member of the American University Preparatory School, and is a frequent lecturer on topics in next-gen education at conferences such as Autodesk University and the International Space Development Conference. Mark has written about Korean space and politics for VICE News, advised an Emmy-nominated episode of the "VICE on HBO" television program, and served as the interpreter for Dennis Rodman's first trip to North Korea. As a passionate advocate for space exploration, Mark sits on the Board of Directors of the non-profit National Space Society, and is an Advisor to Apollo 11 astronaut Dr. Buzz Aldrin on matters concerning space and education policy in Asia.

Minwoo Chang

student
Minwoo Chang is a Korean student who currently attends Korean Minjok Leadership Academy. Ever since having lived in Seattle as an international student, Minwoo has shown much interest in public speaking and has established himself through activities such as parliamentary debate or mock trial during his years at Daewon International Middle School and KMLA. His main academic interests lie across the various fields of social sciences, such as philosophy, sociology, psychology, economics, and others, but he strives to focus his studies in the areas of business and economics. To that end, Minwoo will pursue the career of a venture capitalist and further aims to promote entrepreneurialism in his home country.

Sakiroo Choi

Sakiroo (Korean: 사키루) is a South Korean illustrator and character designer, born Sang-Hyun Choi (Hangul: 최상현; hanja: 崔相賢), in Bucheon, South Korea. The subjects for his work are varied and include caricatures of sports figures. He has been involved in exhibits and projects (see below), including those in South Korea, France, England, United Arab Emirates, China, Singapore, United States, Mexico, Colombia, and Venezuela. He lives and works in Bucheon, just outside Seoul.

Sosaoreum 소사오름

Korean traditional / rock fusion music
Sosaoreum is a occidental/oriental fusion band that brings together the melody of electric guitars and the rhythm of Samulnori (Korean folk percussive music).

Suyeon Lee

student
Suyeon Lee is currently a student of Korean Minjok Leadership Academy. She has spent three years in Shanghai, China while she was younger, and came back to Korea to graduate Korean public elementary and middle school. She is interested in Developmental Psychology and Linguistics.

Woonha Kim

student
Woonha Kim is a student whose main academic interest is in the social sciences - political science, economics, sociology, psychology, and more. He aims to become a morally sensitive writer/journalist who dares to expose the faults of his own community and openly discuss them for improvement. He currently attends Korean Minjok Leadership Academy, a boarding school located in South Korea.
