In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Boonsiri Somchit

Boonsiri Somchit-Ong is the Corporate Vice President at Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) who is responsible for AMD’s Global Accounting and Financial Services and is the Executive in charge of AMD Global Services (M) Sdn. Bhd. In her capacity as the Corporate VP of Finance, she manages teams around the globe and also spearheads and drives various corporate projects for AMD.

Dr Hartini Zainudin

Dr. Hartini Zainudin is currently the CEO of Yayasan Siti Sapura Husin, a not for profit foundation that works with the poor and marginalized, focusing on the needs of children, the elderly and the blind. She is the founder of Yayasan Chow Kit (formerly known as Nur Salam), serving as Head of Advocacy and Funding and the Outreach program in Chow Kit. She is also the Vice President of Voice of the Children, a local NGO that does advocacy work, law and policy reformation and training on children's issues.

Josephine Yoong

Prior to making her mark in the independent publishing scene, Josephine Yoong Mun Yin was an auditor at several international auditing firms. She then branched out into entrepreneurship, serving as a director in various establish companies. Fired by her burning desire to write and to touch young lives, Josephine embarked on a writing path that got her to pen 5 spiritual books before the wildly popular 'Timmy Tapir learns to Do What’s Right!’ was published by her Precious Ones Resources publishing house. This mother of 3 is also the co-founder of Women bizSENSE, a women entrepreneur organization in Penang. 

Kim Khaira

Kim completed her degree in Political Science with a minor in English Literature from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in 2013. During her studies, Kim volunteered for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) as a teacher and as an organizer of fundraising events for a Burmese refugee llearning center. She then worked with Penang Women's Development Corporation (PWDC) as a researcher and a community officer for the Gender Responsive Budgeting (GRB) team. In August 2013, she took the role as a project officer for the Gender Policy and Advocacy programme. Today, Kim is working with a team of passionate individuals from the Penang Stop Human Trafficking Campaign as a community worker and believes that empowerment and self-determination are key values for a democratic society.

Peggy Tan

Penangites would be familiar with the brand Switch. And behind this well known brand and its dynamic staffs is Ms Peggy Tan, the co-founder of Switch. Behind this success lies an adventurous lady who has been abroad for her studies at the tender age of 16. And in 1994, Peggy and her husband, Li, decided to resign from their job and took a two months backpacking trip to South Africa and South America. After the soul searching trip, she then established CG Computers Sdn. Bhd. with her husband and with much effort put into the company for the past 20 years, they are now opening their 27th outlet in Malaysia. It’s not surprising that most, if not all of their staffs are of the Gen-Y’s.

Regina Ibrahim

She is a 50 years old transwoman, a holistic artist who survives by producing artworks, emcee events, writing, singing and making accessories. She recently published a bestselling fiction entitled PERJALANAN and prior to that, a semi academic book on Transgender/Maknyah."

Syerleena A. Rashid

Syerleena Abdul Rashid is a councillor at the Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang (MBPP). As an active member of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), she aims to inspire more women to participate in politics, to take on leadership roles and hope to contribute to making Malaysia a ‘colourless’ country. She writes regularly and is a columnist for both The Malaysian Insider (weekly column comes out every Friday!) and The Rocket. She writes on women’s issues, social justice, political leadership, good governance and ethnic-religious relationships in Malaysian society. Syerleena has a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Communications and cross-cultural media ethics and is currently pursuing a Msc. in Planning Studies and Tourism Development. Prior to this, she was a company director for a sports and recreation firm. Syerleena is a certified helmsman, a diver, a qualified Muay Thai fighter and is a wakeboarding enthusiast.
