In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Carla Frey

Carla Frey presented her first TEDx talk at the age of 13 and has always had a keen interest in debates. Having lived in Malta, Frey got a chance to observe the phenomenon of migration at close range, as Malta is on the Southern EU border on the route of crossings from Africa to Europe, receiving a massive influx of migrants each year. As a result, she feels inspired to take any opportunity to talk about a cause that is close to her heart, which in this case is migration.

Claire Koster

Claire Koster is keen to aid the understanding of others in the area of Epilepsy, a common neurological disorder that induces seizures in its sufferers. Koster believes this is an educational topic for others and from her research and experience, is able to settle common myths about the disorder as well as explain how many individuals are affected by it daily.

Leyla Tacconi

Leyla Tacconi thrives with the ability to communicate her ideas through creative media, such as music and art. Having initially viewed silence as a boundary to communication, her love for the arts and Italian origin have evoked a new view towards non-verbal communication. Tacconi believes that if we use a little less sound and leave it all to nature and expression, we might make the world a better place. A conductor doesn’t speak to his orchestra; he uses body language in an extreme manner to ensure that the strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion and keyboards understand when and how they have to play. Therefore, non-verbal communication is useful in these things, as it allows people to get in touch with one another and to understand the piece, speech and music more deeply. The ways of communicating are vital in the world and Tacconi is keen to raise awareness of this to those around her.

Oskar McDermott

Oskar McDermott has always been enthusiastic at studying how to use new technology in an ever developing world. Having studied Computing all the way from Primary school, McDermott aims to continue researching computer science at university and eventually become a well versed software developer. However, it has come to his attention that the education of computing is not carried out in an intriguing and stimulating manner, resulting in a lack of interest in the subject, despite the ever growing presence of technology. McDermott seeks to share his solutions to this problem, as well as express his passion for Computing.

Phoebe Thomas

Phoebe Thomas has a great passion for human rights and equality, and admires people such as Emma Watson for her speeches on feminism. Having grown up with the encouragement to pursue your dreams no matter your ability, gender or race, Thomas finds it shocking to see people who set themselves back and criticise themselves for fear of not being good enough or of other people's views. As a result, Thomas now seeks to encourage people to stop creating boundaries for themselves and accept who they are. "Once we break down our own personal boundaries" she says, "then we can move forward and break down the boundaries for other people and the boundaries constricting society"

Sabina Narvaez Gonzalez

The idealistic nature of our human rights has proven to be a puzzling topic for Sabina Narvaez Gonzalez, specifically that of freedom of speech. Having worked to find a way to keep all of its benefits, yet make it realistic at the same time, Narvaez Gonzalez has found that the solution is neither clear or easy. "You can't kill a problem with a silver bullet" she says, "not unless you live inside a story".
