In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

CRASH

Non-traditional Percussion Group
CRASH is WashU’s premiere nontraditional percussion group. With repertoire featuring predominately improvisational themes, CRASH aims to explore the sounds of nontraditional instruments like buckets, pots, pans, etc. to create a unique performance experience for their audiences. The group does performances around WashU’s campus and the St. Louis community in addition to collaborating with community service organizations to do workshops with kids of all ages around St. Louis.

Andre Norman

Ambassador of Hope
Andre Norman, former prison gang leader is an international expert of prison culture, having worked in several countries focusing on gangs, staff development and mental health.

Brendan Lind

Executive Director at Launchcode
Brendan Lind co-founded a nonprofit that fosters upward mobility through a unique apprenticeship and job placement program in tech. He graduated with honors at Wash U where he studied anthropology and economics. He currently serves as executive director for that nonprofit, LaunchCode.

Jeffrey Zacks

Cognitive Psychologist
Professor Zacks' laboratory studies how the representations in the brain and the world work together in cognition.

Jenny Murphy

Creative Reuse Specialist
Since she was a kid, our next speaker enjoyed roaming the alleys and curbs of Texas in search for discarded treasures. In 2011, she founded Perennial to spread her love of reuse in St. Louis. She is an artist, educator, and social entrepreneur.

Joshua Jackson

Personality Psychologist
Dr. Josh Jackson is a professor of psychology at Wash U where he directs the Personality Measurement and Development Lab, affectionately known as the P-MAD lab. The lab studies how your personality changes across time and how your personality influences important outcomes such as educational attainment and health status.

Julia Winemiller

Julia Winemiller is a junior majoring in Education and Psychology with a minor in Music. Whether it’s leading WashU students to Ashland elementary, doing ABA autism therapy, mentoring, or student teaching, she has found her passion here educating kids. She grew up in Rochester MN in a musical home, to which she attributes her love and need for music making. She plans to attend graduate school and go on to do something good for the world.

Rohan Khazanchi

Rohan Khazanchi is also a junior, majoring in Biology (concentrating in Neuroscience) with minors in Psychology and Music. Rohan's passion for community involvement at WashU and working with underserved populations around St. Louis led him to found a new program at WashU integrating music-making into working with children with autism. His love for music started early and has continued to manifest in his pursuits in college, even as he pursues career goals within in the medical field.

Susan Stiritz

Positive Sexuality Educator
Susan Stiritz, Senior Lecturer and Chair of the Brown School’s Specialization in Sexual Health and Education, is a transdisciplinary scholar whose ambition is not only to prepare social work and public health students for careers in sexual health but also to inspire them to increase sexual pleasure and satisfaction in the world.
