In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Alexander McGregor

Dr. Alexander McGregor is a writer and historian specialising in cultural history, ideology, art, propaganda and cinema in the 20th century. He teaches history at the United World College of South East Asia and his research interests include cultural theory, ideology, propaganda and education. He has published on topics such as Stalinist art and culture, religion and cinema, anti-semitism in the US, culture in the Cuban revolution, ideology in Japan and the nature of History.

Ivan Brehm

Executive Head Chef Ivan Brehm from restaurant Bacchanalia, Singapore, has an extensive culinary repertoire and gastronomic education. With Culinary Art degrees from Senac, in his native Brazil, and the Culinary Institute of America in the US, Ivan Brehm’s aspirations have taken him on revelatory gastronomic travels. Each stop on this journey has offered him opportunities to learn from some of the world’s best chefs, resulting in both the development of his own personality as a chef and a formation of a great culinary repertoire and expertise.

Kevin Sung

DJ + qualified martial art practitioner + mixologist
Kevin Sung is a student at UBC Vancouver and alumnus of United World College of South East Asia. Having grown up in many countries all over the world, the cultural diversity in Singapore allowed him to have an extensive experience and knowledge about DJing and music production after getting involved in wide range of events, from private to charity events. He is passionate and specialized in Big Room, Deep House, and Future House. These key experiences, his unique background and constant learning experience have inspired him to keep developing his professional skills and get recognition. He is also former DJ mentor of the first UWCSEA DJ club, qualified martial art practitioner (TKD/Krav Maga), and a mixologist. He still has many interests in wide range of fields and plans to continue on his musical journey.

Mike Johnston

Mike Johnston empowers students, teachers and leaders in the places he has worked including Canada, Scotland, Mexico, Russia, Qatar and Singapore, to know they really can make a difference in the world. He has led workshops and keynoted for teachers and administrators around the world on sustainability, global K–12 curriculum and how service learning should not just be what you do, but who you are as a school. He has dedicated much of his time to not only ensuring students are properly prepared for the world’s most pressing issues but that they have the skills and desire to take action.

Nadya Shahd

With a foot in both theatre and music, and a lifelong love for literature, Nadya has always been concerned with the power of storytelling. She has been involved with and created various arts events at UWC East over the years, and will carry on sharing stories of all shapes and sizes in New York City after graduation.

Rohan Malik

Rohan Malik is a student at King's College London and an alumnus of United World College of South East Asia. Having grown up in India, the move to Singapore the allowed him to avail the opportunities to travel in the region to attend various MUN and peacekeeping conferences. These key experiences and learning have inspired him to pursue his lifelong dream of being a diplomat. He is also former national-level swimmer, keen musician and political columnist for a targeted website in India.
