In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Allie White

Allie White is a University of Utah graduate, and a self-proclaimed nerd. She has a Bachelors of Science in the field of Psychology, and she works as a paraprofessional at a local high school helping students with special needs find their own success. Allie has been involved in music since she was 7 years old. In between all of her video game sessions, she managed to learn eleven instruments. Music has been a very influential aspect of her life, so she does what she can to use that resource as a method to help her students perform well in school. Allie isn't just all music and games, however. In her free time Allie likes to do yoga, go to museums, and carve pumpkins.

Anna Johnson

Anna Johnson went through a lot of trials in a short period of her life and many of them could have made her give up. There were even times she wanted to, but the thoughts she shares in this video made her change her mind. They are true thoughts that she had during those moments and because of them she is here today. Anna hope that they will help you too.

Jaime Heiner

Jaime Heiner, is a nationally recognized motivational speaker. She got involved in spreading awareness after she was sexually abused by her 9th grade teacher. Though that experience was one that she will never forget, Jaime has decided to use what happened to her to make a difference in the world. Jaime’s dream of empowering other victims of abuse around the world by being a motivational speaker has recently manifested itself through the creation of a nonprofit organization, "I Am My Own Hero." She wants to help other victims of abuse overcome what has happened to them and become who they are meant to be. Jaime believes we can live in a world free from abuse, focusing on what’s possible, and not allowing the past to define the future. Her drive, motivation, and passion for life make her a force that people are inspired to follow. Her passion for life and motivation to help other victims speak out is the driving force behind "I Am My Own Hero."

Robert Ferrell

Due to a severe speech impediment and learning disability, Robert barely graduated from High School. Embracing failure as an opportunity, he was mentored to success. He has a Bachelors in Psychology and a Doctorate in Dental Surgery. He is a periodontist and has been practicing in Ogden for 18 years. Dr. Ferrell is the president of a charitable foundation that provides dental care to the underprivileged at home and around the world. He is the co-founder of a private mentored-based high school in South Ogden. Dr. Ferrell is the CEO of “Lift & Lean”, a company that empowers others towards sustainable success. As a dentist, he has observed that everyone has a speech impediment when his hands are in their mouth. So open wide, he promises this won’t hurt a bit.

Theresa Kay

Dr. Kay is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Weber State University. She has taught at WSU for 15 years. She teaches Introductory Psychology, Child Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, and Psychology of Human Relationships courses. Dr. Kay also supervises student research and practicum activities. Dr. Kay is very involved with OUTReach Resource Centers, an organization that serves LGBTQ youth. She mentors psychology students’ practicum experiences at OUTreach, she mentors and advises LGBTQ youth, and she serves as a mental health consultant for the organization. Dr. Kay also maintains a small clinical practice.

Vikki Carrel

Vikki is a highly sought after author and national speaker. She has conducted seminars across the United States in both the private and public sectors, and is a frequent contributor on regional and national television. Vikki is the president of Vikki Carrel and Company, the creator of The Empowerment Project, author of Switching Lanes, co-author of Chloe’s Closet, and has recently written Puzzle Pieces. While living back East, she co-founded Two Balance, Inc. and Mother Daughter America – a national movement to re-connect mothers and daughters. Vikki holds a degree in business administration/marketing. She and her husband have two grown sons, and they live in heart of the Utah Rocky Mountains.
