Our TEDx-approved theme “Contemporary Revolutions” was inspired by our Highgate School community, the setting of our conference. In 1565, Queen Elizabeth I signed a charter for 7 orphan boys to attend Highgate School. 450 years later, we are amongst the first females to have joined and graduated from the school, and thus her altruistic endeavour to offer education to all has significantly revolutionised our lives, enabling our endeavours today. Not only that, but members of the Highgate School community are constantly seizing the opportunity to change the world around them, be it through a Mental Health Conference (http://www.highgateschool.org.uk/senior/mental-health-conference) or coeducation. Simon Milner

Simon Milner is the policy director for Facebook in the UK, Middle East and Africa. He previously held senior roles with BT, most recently as Director for Group Industry Policy, where he was responsible for policy development, articulation and advocacy on communications industry issues. Milner has also worked for the BBC, including holding the position of Secretary, responsible for the Corporation’s governance and accountability whilst advising the Chairman and Director-General on a range of strategic, regulatory, managerial and governance issues.
