TEDxMontreal is a vibrant and stimulating platform for ideas to clash and connect in unexpected ways. On this day, a dozen speakers are given 18 minutes to present the talk of their life. From scientists to engineers, to artists and entrepreneurs, speakers from an array of fields share their perspectives and ideas. TEDxMontreal is much more than a one time event. With the talks published online for free, TEDx talks have triggered innovation in all corners of the globe. More than anything, TEDxMontreal aims at sparking genuine curiosity and initiating a love of learning in its most fundamental way. The TED movement has a vibrant presence in Montreal. We catalyze our city’s vitality into an immersive, face-­to-­face, day ­long bilingual experience.

Andrés Finzi

Assistant Professor at Université de Montréal and Researcher at CRCHUM

Andrés Finzi - Assistant Professor & Researcher - Professeur adjoint et chercheur As an assistant professor at the department of microbiology, infectiology and immunology of Université de Montréal (UdeM) and researcher at the Centre Hospitalier de l’UdeM, Andrés and his team work tirelessly to find new ways to fight HIV. With an innovative approach in studying the virus, Andrés and his collaborators have reached a major breakthrough which may prove key in the fight for a functional cure. Professeur adjoint au département de microbiologie, infectiologie et immunologie de l’Université de Montréal (UdeM) et chercheur au Centre de Recherche du Centre Hospitalier de l’UdeM, Andrés travaille avec son équipe à trouver un remède contre le VIH. Eric Paré

Eric Paré - Visual Artist - Artiste visuel Eric Paré is a visual artist performing light-painting around the world since 2012. His work has been seen on CNN, MTV and on 400 publications worldwide. His most recent project “Little Circle” took him to Australia, Mongolia, Morocco, Iceland, Bolivia and Mexico. It will be presented as a dance film, a documentary and a live show. When in Montreal, he creates 360-degree pictures in his studio using a synchronized camera array. Eric Paré est un artiste visuel qui utilise la technique de light-painting depuis 2012. Ses créations ont été publiées sur CNN, MTV et plus de 400 publications mondiales. Son projet récent « Little Circle » l’a amené en Australie, Mongolie, Maroc, Islande, Bolivie et au Mexique et sera présenté sous forme d’un film de danse, d’un documentaire et d’un spectacle en salle. Gabriel Bran Lopez

Founding President of Youth Fusion

Gabriel Bran Lopez is the Founding President of Youth Fusion, an award-winning charity that works to lower dropout rates through weekly programs with 12,000 at-risk youth in more than 80 schools across the province of Quebec. Gabriel was elected President of the Jeune Chambre de commerce de Montréal in 2015 and currently sits on the board of Concordia University and the J.A. Bombardier Foundation. Gabriel Bran Lopez est le président fondateur de Fusion Jeunesse, un organisme de bienfaisance, gagnant de plusieurs prix et distinctions, qui travaille pour contrer le décrochage scolaire. À ce jour, Fusion Jeunesse travaille à toutes les semaines auprès de 12 000 jeunes à risque, dans 80 établissements scolaires publics situés sur l’ensemble du territoire québécois. Gabriel fut élu président de la Jeune Chambre de commerce de Montréal en 2015. Il siège présentement sur le conseil d’administration de la Fondation J.A. Bombardier et celui de l’Université Concordia.

Guillaume Dulude

Interpersonal Communication Strategist

Guillaume Dulude - Communication Strategist - Stratège en communication As an explorer, Guillaume has traveled to remote areas worldwide, including inhabiting with cannibalistic tribes in Indonesia and indigenous tribes in Papua New Guinea. Despite not sharing a common language or culture, Guillaume succeeded in interacting with locals using instinctive, non-verbal methods leading to the creation of his documentary film entitled #TRIBE. Guillaume is currently, completing a Phd in neuropsychology. Les voyages en régions éloignées de Guillaume l’ont amené à faire la connaissance de peuples isolés tels que les tribus cannibales d’Indonésie et les tribus indigènes de la Papouasie-Nouvelle-Guinée. Malgré l’absence d’une langue et d’une culture commune, Guillaume a su établir la communication en utilisant des méthodes non-verbales instinctives qui sont à la source de son film documentaire intitulé #TRIBE. Guillaume termine présentement un doctorat en neuropsychologie.

Jeff Fox

Professional dancer, competitor, choreographer

Jeff Fox - Dancer - Interprète Jeff Fox is a professional dancer/competitor/choreographer who has been teaching in Kitchener, Ontario for the past fifteen years and has won professional titles in American Smooth, Rhythm, Theatre Arts, and Showdance. Aside from his dancing Jeff is also a double black belt, a singer, has an honours degree in psychology, writes novels, and is certified in Reiki. Jeff Fox est un interprète professionnel, un compétiteur et un chorégraphe qui enseigne à Kitchener en Ontario depuis quinze ans et qui a remporté des titres professionnels en American Smooth, Rhythm, Théâtre des Arts, et Showdance. Jeff est également double ceinture noire, chanteur, romancier, reikiologue et détenteur d’un baccalauréat en psychologie. Jérôme Glad

Jérôme Glad - Cofondateur et designer de Pépinière & Co Issu d'une formation en architecture et design urbain, Jérôme travaille d’abord dans un bureau d’architecture, avant de se spécialiser dans le développement d'initiatives urbaines au sein de l’ADUQ puis Pépinière & Co, organisme de placemaking qu’il fonde en 2014. Jérôme a contribué à la réalisation de projets urbains d'un nouveau genre à Montréal, à la rencontre entre les milieux du design, de la culture, et des communautés locales. Il est notamment à l’origine des Jardins Gamelin, du Village au Pied-du-Courant, du Marché du Nord et du Marché des Ruelles. Jonathan Bélisle

Interactive Poet, UX Designer

Jonathan Bélisle is a UX Poet, web entrepreneur and interactive storyteller. As a polymath, he blends together his skills as an interactive designer, User Research Director, creative technologist and an inspired teacher. He studied film narratology and mastered visual thinking before combining them with ethnographic methods and service design thinking. His diverse background enables him to approach complex problems in a playful manner when adding Human Touch to mobile devices and interactive storytelling to connected objects and media. He is the founder of Hello, Architekt ! a Sensemaking & Changemaking Consultancy that helped the digital transformation of many enterprises, creator of Wuxia the Fox, a Research Affiliate at the Annenberg Innovation Lab of Southern California University, a professor of experience architecture at INIS Media School and Chief Design Officer at SAGA where he created the first OS for the Physical World. Kim Henry

Kim Henry - Dancer - Interprète After graduating from l’École de danse contemporaine de Montréal in 2011, where she received 2 Excellence grants and the Hnatyshyn Foundation Grant, Kim performed in more than 30 dance and physical theatre projects as a freelance artist. She has collaborated with Montréal Danse, Mélanie Demers (Fly), Lucie Grégoire, Isabelle Boulanger, Festival Montréal Complètement Cirque, Dynamo Théâtre, Théâtre de la Dame de Coeur and Cirque du Soleil’s Red Carpet as well as many others. Suite à sa graduation de l’École de danse contemporaine de Montréal en 2011, où elle a reçu 2 bourses d’excellence ainsi que la bourse de la Fondation Hnatyshyn, Kim a participé à plus de 30 projets de danse et théâtre physique en tant que pigiste. Elle a entre autres collaboré avec Montréal Danse, Mélanie Demers (Fly), Lucie Grégoire, Isabelle Boulanger, Festival Montréal Complètement Cirque, Dynamo Théâtre, Théâtre de la Dame de Coeur et le Tapis rouge du Cirque du Soleil.

Myra Giberovitch

Professor, Author, Social Worker

Myra Giberovitch - Social Worker - Travailleuse sociale A daughter of Holocaust survivors, Myra started the first community-based social service program for Holocaust survivors in Canada and is recognized as an international pioneer in this area. A McGill University Adjunct Professor and author of “Recovering from Genocidal Trauma”, Myra believes that positive lessons can be drawn from the experience of survivors, and that every tragedy, be it on a small or great scale, has the potential to foster positive growth. Fille de survivants de l’Holocauste, Myra a fondé le premier centre communautaire d’aide aux survivants au Canada. Auteure de « Recovering from Genocidal Trauma » et professeure adjointe à l’Université McGill, Myra croit qu’il existe des apprentissages positifs à tirer de l’expérience des survivants, et que chaque drame, qu’il soit vécu à plus ou moins grande échelle, a le pouvoir d’engendrer une croissance positive. Pier-André Bouchard St-Amant est conseiller en recherche et associé principal chez IS&B | Économie simplifiée. Détenteur d’un doctorat en économie de l’Université Queen’s et d’un Post-doctorat en économie de INET-New York et INET-Université de Cambridge, ses travaux portent sur l’économie des réseaux et l’économie de la taxation. Pier-André Bouchard St-Amant is a research adviser and Senior Partner at IS&B | Simplified Economics. He holds a Doctorate in economics from Queen’s University and a Post-doctorate in economics from INET-New York and INET-University of Cambridge. Tom Whitton - Chemical Engineer and former City Councillor As the Sales Manager with Pyrogenesis Canada Inc., and as a member of the board of directors at Écotech Quebec, Tom Whitton is interested in ecological preservation and the environmental impacts of consumerism. Although recycling and modern practices of waste management have considerably reduced the quantities of rubbish we produce, the mid-to-long term impacts of the system currently in place reveal flaws that are highly detrimental to our health and life on this planet. In light of this fact, Tom Whitton offers direct, hands-on solutions that, in other spheres, have already proven their effectiveness. Trevor Copp - Artistic Director - Directeur artistique Award winning founder of the contemporary theatre/dance company Tottering Biped Theatre, Trevor is known for innovative social justice theatre that blends physicality, image and narrative. In a talk/dance, he presents the creation of ‘First Dance’, a dance/theatre production whose central element proposes a way of changing gender role perception by altering one of the most traditional dance forms: Ballroom. Fondateur du théâtre contemporain Tottering Biped Theatre, Trevor s’est vu attribuer plusieurs prix pour son travail. Il est reconnu pour son théâtre innovant portant sur la justice sociale qui mélange physicalité, image et narration. Dans cette conférence appuyée d’une performance, il parlera de sa création intitulée «First dance», un spectacle unissant danse et théâtre qui propose un changement de perception du rôle des genres à travers une personnalisation d’une des formes de danse les plus traditionnelles: le ballroom.
