In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Jack Grove

A marine biologist and professional naturalist, Jack has spent two decades traveling on and lecturing about the world's oceans. He is the co-founder of Zegrahm Expeditions, a research associate at the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History, and a leading authority on the fishes and marine environments of the eastern tropical Pacific. Jack lived in the Galápagos for seven years, where he studied marine biology. In 1997, Stanford University Press published his work, The Fishes of the Galápagos Islands, and he received his PhD from Pacific Western University. A Fellow of The Explorers Club, Jack has led expeditions to remote corners of the world and has worked as a marine naturalist and photographer. Jack is a certified dive master and conservationist. In 2002, he was one of 57 scientists invited by the World Conservation Union (IUCN) to participate in a conference discussing a strategy to preserve marine biodiversity. He manages his own photography business in the Florida Keys.
