The theme of the event is Passion Projects: Lifelong Learning. The goal of the event is twofold. First is to inspire all of our 9th graders as they prepare for 10th grade, their final year in the MYP, culminating with completion of their Personal Project which is in essence a Passion Project. The second goal is to give some of our students a voice in the global community. Our speakers for this event will include impassioned adults and students.

Chrissy Dos Santos is a member of the class of 2015 at Carrollwood Day School.

Dr. Barbara Hodges

Dr. Barbara Hodges has been Executive Director of FCIS since 2010. As one of the nation’s largest organizations of independent schools, it represents over 70,000 students in 160 member schools. Prior to FCIS, Barbara was the Head of School at Holy Comforter Episcopal School for 17 years in Tallahassee and President of the FCIS Board of Directors.

Dr. Erin Kimmerle

Dr. Erin Kimmerle is an associate professor of Anthropology at the University of South Florida specializing in applied biological anthropology. Dr. Kimmerle’s work helps solve criminal investigation cases including the recent Dozier School for Boys. She is particularly interested in skeletal biology applied in international human rights cases.

Dr. Joan Kaywell

Dr. Joan Kaywell is a professor of English Education at the University of South Florida specializing in Young Adult Literature. Dr. Kaywell is published in several journals and has edited two series of textbooks. Her first trade book Dear Author: Letters of Hope is intended to get students to choose reading as a healthy escape from their life’s negative circumstances.

Dr. John Chubb

Dr. John Chubb has been president of the National Association of Independent Schools since 2013. His ideas on education have been featured in many prominent publications including The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal and he has authored and edited numerous books. Prior to joining NAIS, Dr. Chubb was interim CEO of Education Sector, a nonprofit think tank. He was also a founder and CEO of Leeds Global Partners, an international education services and consulting firm, where he helped provide training for school leaders around the world.

Dr. Shilpa Saxena

Shilpa P. Saxena, MD is a family physician whose passion and purpose come to life through her experiences with physician education and patient empowerment. A national expert in Integrative and Functional Medicine, she serves as faculty at the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine, the Institute for Functional Medicine, George Washington University School of Medicine, and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

Gabriel Rojas

Gabriel Rojas is a member of the class of 2015 at Carrollwood Day School.

Jake Flansburg

Jake Flansburg is a member of the class of 2018 at Carrollwood Day School.

Karina Bowers

Karina Bowers is a member of the class of 2016 at Carrollwood Day School. She has been dancing for 14 years. She currently trains at All American Dance Factory & All American Classical Ballet School in Tampa, FL.

Madison Sanders is a member of the class of 2020 at Carrollwood Day School.

Paul Campbell

Paul Campbell is the Head of Regional Development for International Baccalaureate Americas, which serves over 2000 IB World Schools in 30 countries in North America, South America, Central America and the Caribbean. Paul has worked for IB since 1988 in a variety of positions. During that time, he has worked with hundreds of schools and school systems to help them start or sustain IB programs

Spencer Peek is a member of the class of 2016 at Carrollwood Day School.

Todd Wagner

Todd Wagner co-founded Broadcast.com with partner Mark Cuban in 1998 and later sold it to Yahoo! Today, Mr. Wagner co-owns 2929 Entertainment. The Todd Wagner philanthropic foundation was started in 2001 to support technology and life skills for inner city schools across the United States.
