In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Sriram

Arpan Roy

Mr. Roy, a Rex Karmaveer Global Fellow and an under graduate at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, initiated the “Skip A Meal” program in his campus, a campaign where students skip their Saturday lunch and serve it at orphanages in Tuljapur (Maharashtra). The initiative is in the process of being carried forward as a National Students Movement, with colleges like Madras Christian College (Chennai) and St. Stephen’s college (New Delhi) adopting it to bolster the dilapidated spirits of the abandoned; providing them with nourishment that caters not just to their physical needs but mental needs as well; having realized that loneliness can be as lethal as starvation, to a human soul.

Ashwini Raghupathy

shwini Raghupathy, a Bangalore based Odissi dancer, and a freelance media consultant, is the Founder of ARPANA, a school for Odissi dance in Bangalore. A classical Odissi exponent, she graduated from the renowned Nrityagram Dance Village. She has over 6 years of experience with the contemporary dance troupe Nrityarutya and has performed in many major festivals in India. One of the things Ashwini has constantly strived for is to bring classical dance out of the traditional, ‘artistic’ spaces that it has always been fettered in, into more inclusive spaces and communities. Whether it is her work in helping trans-gender express their emotions through dance, or free body conditioning classes by the sunlit trees of Cubbon Park and Bangalore’s busy markets, Ashwini has constantly pushed the frontiers of what dance could be to people.
