Munich, Bayern

The motto of the upcoming TEDxMünchen 2014 is "At Second Glance/ Auf den zweiten Blick". Together with our speakers, we will go below the surface and dig deeper. We would like to challenge bias and re-discover things we think to be well known. We want to pay attention to details that have been overlooked and look at things through the eyes of others. We aim to discover the good in the bad and learn how to turn defeats into victories. We will change our perspective and then turn around, and change it again. We will find out how one views the world if one can not see at all. We want to find the earnestness in the comic and the comic in all things earnest. And - who knows - maybe we will even discover aspects of Munich, that we have never seen before.

Döblinger

Dr. Döblingers Kasperltheater

Doctor Döblingers geschmackvolles Kasperltheater (freely translated: Doctor Doblinger’s tasteful Punch & Judy), founded in 1994, is, on the one hand, a mobile puppet theatre that stages Punch & Judy puppet shows in the whole of Bavaria. On the other hand, it is a production facility of Bavarian Punch & Judy audio pieces that have been published on CD since 2005 and are broadcast in the children’s program of the BR. Owners, authors, speakers, directors and puppeteers are Josef Parzefall and Richard Oehmann. Doctor Döblingers geschmackvolles Kasperltheater was awarded the Schwabing Art Prize in 2012. Josef Parzefall is also an actor, writer and director, as well as singer and lyricist of the group "Singermaschin”. Richard Oehmann is an author, DJ and vacationer, as well as singer and lyricist of the group "Cafe Unterzucker”.

Elektrik Kezy Mezy

Amadeus Böhm and Frank Feiler from Munich’s garage rock band Elektrik Kezy Mezy have shown themselves to be far from squeamish when it comes to live shows. The force and intensity that these two showcase in the latest release „Simple Pleasures“ resembles more of an electric shock than a typical rock and roll record. The well-timed coming together of thunderous overdriven guitar riffs and rock-hard drum beats makes this piece honest, direct and above all, loud. Their music also possesses the feeling and emotion of 60’s Soul and occasionally even a Beatlesque Ballad like „The Song I Wrote“. The listener is pampered with refined melody and smooth melodic changes all the while a storm rages. Elektrik Kezy Mezy called this combination reckless but nonetheless mixed with a healthy dose of self-deprication. A must see for anyone with love for music that is hand-crafted with an attention to detail.

Thomas Fraps

In 1994 Thomas Fraps acquired his diploma in physics at the LMU, but then decided to leave the laws of nature behind and turned his passion into a profession. For over 20 years now he has been entertaining and astonishing audiences worldwide, either as a magician or as a false guest speaker, performing - among other events - at a supercomputer conference in San Diego, the Magic Castle in Los Angeles, at a cardiologist-meeting in Beirut, or at the opening of a sewage sludge incinerator in Schongau, Bavaria. In 2005 he was the first and only professional magician featured in the scientific journal "Nature" and since 2009 he also collaborates with brain researchers in London and Munich. He is the co-founder of the annual magic festival "The Munich Magic Weeks" and author of numerous articles on the psychological and technical aspects of magic. What he enjoys and thrives most at however, is to amaze audiences live on stage, with his unique blend of adrenaline, dopamine and Merlin!
