Theme:Dig More Stories About Chiayi.

The event of TEDxChungChengU was filled with the contagious sensation of local awareness. The performance of Tsou Music Studio (indigenous people of Taiwan) and the lecture of OBL TAIWAN (TED Talk speaker) were all touching and unforgettable. Among all, the moment which impressed me the most is TEDxNight. We invited over 30 TEDx members (approximately 10 independent organizations) around Taiwan to attend this activity in Chiayi. It was a precious opportunity for all the TEDx members to share their experiences, brainstorm more novel ideas, and further bring them back to their community.

In this TEDx event, we’ve put lots of effort on the venue design and so does the whole event process. We want the core value of the event to be seamlessly connected to every activities we’ve planned. First, we deliberately designed the opening animation, sub-topic introduction animation, etc. Second, some installation artworks were arranged outside the lecture hall such as leaves glued in the shape of alphabets, TED. Besides, several event-related questions were posted on the wall of lecture hall. Attendees can leave messages and questions on the cardboard. Apart from touchable objects, we respect every Ted Talk speakers, so the event hosts had to clearly introduce each of them before they were on the stage. We also designed billboards of every speaker in order to show our gratitude. All of these extra designs aim to impress all the attendees, so they could remember every touching moment of the event, not just fragmental and incomplete words.

To talk about the belief of the event, basically, there will be certain values and perspectives every TED event anticipates to express. TEDxChungChengU is not an exception. Presumably, we want the attendees to at least understand the core value of the event. However, it is really interesting to see the attendees explore wider and realize more than we expected. TEDxChungChengU hopes to dig more stories about Chiayi and promote them to people who are not familiar with it. Thus, we grabbed the opportunity to contact this group of people, so we invited the author of Chia Yi Trip, Chen Jun-Wen to personally be the moderator of the second half of the event and to introduce the local culture of Chiayi to audience.

Superficially, TEDxChungChengU seems to be a small organization in the university; yet, we don’t restrain our vision on campus. The core value of TEDxChungChengU is to bring local recognition to the public. The recognition we intend to give is not only geographically restricted in the university but every normal and sometimes easily forgotten wonders in real life. To explore the world and further internalize the power as self-confidence is one of the goals TEDxChungChengU wants to fulfill for CCU students. Hopefully, we can dig deeper to the core value in the future. One day, we are going to be proud to see TEDxChungChengU become the icon of Chiayi but not merely in National Chung Cheng University.
