Dr. Jennifer Poole

Dr. Jennifer Poole, associate professor at the School of Social Work at Ryerson University, holds a PhD in Public Health and a Master of Social Work. As the author of ‘Behind the Rhetoric: Mental Health Recovery in Ontario”, her work focuses on madness, sanism and the ways in which we can better respond to suffering. Her current projects focus on the experiences of Mad people in post secondary education, sanism, critical approaches to grief and death.

Dr. Steven Murphy

As an accomplished researcher, presenter and the newly appointed dean of TRSM, Dr. Steven Murphy is nationally recognized as an expert in organizational behaviour and an award-winning teacher. Murphy has over 110 papers, book chapters, technical reports, and presentations to his credit and has served as a reviewer for numerous publications. Beyond his academic career, he also has extensive experience consulting in both private and public sectors.

Dr. Bala Venkatesh

Dr. Bala Venkatesh is both founding Academic Director and the head of Ryerson Centre for Urban Energy. He is also a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Ryerson University and investigator for two significant research projects funded by Hydro One and Toronto Hydro. Dr. Venkatesh's research focuses on Power Systems Analysis and Optimization. He specializes in Fuzzy Optimization applications to Power Systems.

Michelle Kwan

One of the winners of our Student Speaker Auditions, Michelle Kwan is a recent graduate from Ryerson University, where she obtained her Bachelor of Applied Science in Nutrition and Food. She also has graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Arts. Her interdisciplinary approach unites the arts with health, providing a meaningful way for people to better understand their health and achieve wellness.

Ayyyna Budaeva

Ayyyna Budaeva is a fourth year Business Management student majoring in Marketing and is the marketing manager of the newly launched Fashion Zone through the Digital Media Zone. Ayyyna won the student speaker competition with a TEDxRyersonU 2013 talk that included surprising studies and helpful tips on creativity and the inspiring story of an entrepreneurial uncle.

Grahame Lynch

Grahame Lynch, a professor at the Ryerson School of Fashion, has a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Guelph where he concentrated in the areas of Extended Media and Installation. His current research address approaches to information design, wayfinding and the perceptual understanding of artwork for partially sighted individuals through the use of accessible ICT.

Alexander Forworn

Alexander Ferworn, professor at the Department of Computer Science, has made a career at Ryerson by looking at challenges from perspectives very different from those of his colleagues. Whether it be his new initiative to create two online degree courses in the Chang School for robotics, his award-winning lectures, or his CARD rubbles searching system, Alexander Ferworn is one of Ryerson's leaders when it comes to taking a different perspective.
