TEDWomen is a TED event curated by TED and Pat Mitchell that focuses on women and women’s issues. TEDxWomen events are TEDx events hosted around the live webcast of TEDWomen, and may also feature local speakers. Our event is called TEDxTampaRiverwalkWomen and is one of many TEDx events happening around the globe on December 5 that will expand on the ideas brought up at TEDWomen.

This year, TEDWomen will take place on December 5th, 2013 in San Francisco. Locally, TEDxTampaRiverwalkWomen will livestream a session of TEDWomen that same day, at the John F. Germany Public Library Auditorium, from 4pm to 7:30 pm, with three local presenters to share regional perspectives on the theme of “Invented Here.”

Tickets are free, but seating is limited so apply now to attend!

TEDWomen 2013 will celebrate invention in all its forms, looking not only at technology and things, but also solutions to poverty; approaches to peacemaking; expressions of art, and, at times, our own lives. Some of the questions we’re asking: How does geography impact innovation? How do new technologies shape our lives? How do great ideas take flight? How can meaningful change be imagined, fostered, and scaled?

“Invented Here” is an apropos topic, we believe, to consider at the John F. Germany Library, soon home to the Community Innovation Center, a precedent setting public creative space being developed through the collaborative efforts of the nonprofit organization, LI4E, Hillsborough County and the John F. Germany Library.

TEDWomen 2013 continues TED’s multi-year conversation about women’s work and lives, present and future. A powerful conversation was started at TEDWomen in 2010 and continued through the next two years as TEDxWomen in New York, LA and Washington, D.C. The spark: How are women and girls reshaping the future? From the developing world, where a small loan to a young woman can transform a village, to the West, where generations of educated women are transforming entire industries, women are change agents, inventors, idea champions.

The TEDx community has expanded on these ideas through hundreds of local TEDxWomen events, featuring the live stream as well as local speakers and entertainment.

TEDxTampaRiverwalk is proud to be one of those communities!
