Miranda Wang i Jeanny Yao, estudiants d'últim any d'institut, van emprendre la cerca d'una nova bactèria capaç de biodegradar plàstic, i més concretament un plastificant danyòs anomenat "ftalat". La seua investigació va donar els seus fruits sorprenentment prop de casa.
